"I stayed at Hotel Nice Azur Riviera during a business trip to Nice, where my boss and I were attending a conference. We chose this hotel mainly because of its reasonable rates and excellent location. It is within easy walking distance from the Nice-Ville train station and the tram stop, which offers a direct connection to the Palais des Expositions where our event was being held.
We booked directly through the hotel's website, which was straightforward, easy to navigate, and offered a smooth booking experience.
We arrived late in the afternoon and were welcomed by a friendly receptionist who made check-in quick and pleasant. My room was on the smaller side, but for the price, it was more than adequate. It was clean, comfortable, and came with a few thoughtful welcome amenities, including macarons, a small lavender sachet, and hand lotion. It was a lovely touch that made the room feel more personal.
Interestingly, my boss had a different experience. He didn't receive the same welcome amenities.
The room was clean and the bed was comfortable, and although my room overlooked the street, the soundproofing was excellent. I barely noticed any traffic noise and slept very well each night.
Another feature I appreciated was the complimentary bottled water in the room, along with the chilled water dispenser in the bar area on the ground floor where guests could refill their bottles. The hotel also placed complimentary snacks there during the day, which appeared to be leftovers from breakfast. Rather than seeing this as a negative, I thought it was a nice initiative to reduce food waste while giving guests something to enjoy between meals.
Breakfast itself was ok. It wasn't particularly memorable, but it offered everything you would expect from a hotel of this size, with mostly pastries, breads, and industrial products that could be baked or heated. The breakfast staff were friendly and kept everything running smoothly.
One unexpected convenience was the small selection of local souvenirs available for purchase at reception. Since we needed gifts for business contacts, we bought lavender products, Marseille soaps, and towels directly from the hotel. The receptionist even provided gift bags for everything, which was a thoughtful gesture and saved us an extra shopping trip.
Unfortunately, the final day prevented what would otherwise have been a five-star review.
I requested a late checkout, which the hotel kindly granted for €20 per hour. Due to an unexpected situation while I was out that morning, I returned later than planned and needed a little more time to pack. I apologized to the staff and did my best to finish as quickly as possible.
During that time, the same receptionist who had warmly welcomed us a few days earlier knocked on my door and told me rather bluntly to hurry because new guests were arriving. I completely understand the operational pressure hotels face, but her tone felt unnecessarily impatient. At the time, I assumed perhaps they were allowing me those extra minutes free of charge, but I later discovered I had actually been charged for the entire additional hour anyway. That made the interaction feel even less justified. If I had paid for the extra time, I didn't quite understand why I was being rushed.
To make matters worse, when I requested my invoice, it contained an error because it did not include the late checkout charge that I had already paid that morning. After returning home, I had to email and call the hotel several times to have the invoice corrected. They eventually issued an updated version, but strangely never cancelled the original invoice, which left me wondering how they reconcile their accounts.
Despite those final hiccups, I genuinely enjoyed my stay. The location is excellent, the rooms are comfortable, and most of the staff were welcoming and helpful. Had it not been for the uncomfortable interaction during checkout and the invoicing issues afterward, this would easily have been a five-star experience.
I would still happily recommend Hotel Nice Azur Riviera to anyone looking for a well-located and good-value hotel in Nice. Hopefully, my last-day experience was simply an exception rather than the norm."
