Hotel ibis Marseille Centre Gare Saint-Charles

"Situated just next to the train station, not very close to the Old Port if you have difficulty walking. The area doesn't look safe for walking after sunset, we were afraid to go. The room was clean, but not the terrace of the hotel. The stairs that access the hotel floor levels were claustrophobic, dirty and required a card to enter. We asked for first floor rooms but there were none with double beds, only second floor and up had double beds. The single bed was uncomfortable, leaned to one side and made it difficult to sleep. There was a large window that we could open for fresh air. The bathroom had a tiny sealed window and the vent fan did not work. There were only two towels provided for a couple, very small and thin. After a request they brought a nice big soft towel. There was no refrigerator in the room, very inconvenient during hot weather. The shower was extremely narrow. Many thanks to the Dining room staff, they were very kind, cheerful and helpful. Breakfast was tasty and a good variety, unfortunately there was a problem with flies on uncovered food. Dinner was quite tasty and portions were good. We were pleased to find cold water with lemons in the reception every day. Very helpful providing breakfast for groups departing at odd hours."

"No pretension to be nothing more than it is. Rooms are small but have all the basics and ours was very clean. Great location very close to the train and bus station and walking distance to all the attractions. The only thing is the amount of flies when you enter the place and my partner saw two rats outside the restaurant, and it makes you wonder about their cleaning standards."

"This hotel has a great location, but that is about it. I spent two nights here due to the location, but next time I will pick somewhere else. The overall impression of this Ibis hotel is sloppy and that it is not very well managed. On day 1, I can see that there is only one elevator serving my section of the hotel, and I am on the top floor. Just saying to me myself:”Hope this elevator will not give up in the next two days!” It took less than 24 hours! I came down for breakfast before 9 am on day 2, and that was obviously far too late. No juice or water, coffee machines that needed service, very poor selection of bread and all the various fruit jams were long gone. I have seen hundreds of breakfast buffets in different hotel categories, but this one easily qualifies among the worst three I have seen. I cannot believe you can charge customers for the breakfast buffet in its current condition. I went across to the train station and got a very good breakfast! Then there are all the minor things like key cards that do not work (on several occasions in 24 hours), and hotel rooms in dire need of TLC. I am not referring to cleaning, but rather the interior decoration which reminds me of East German fashion circa 1975. This hotel has a lot going for it, but today they do not deliver, considering price and service. I stayed at another Ibis in Lyon recently (similar category), so I know that Ibis knows what good looks like!"
