Hotel du Sud Vieux Port

"For a solo traveler on a budget you really want security, safe, comfortable , friendly staff,economical, location location location, Tons of great eateries around , served really well by public transport, great neighborhood , tons to do , diverse culturally, easy walking in a safe place , lots of shopping, things to do. By port, . A/C central not great given extreme heat . Room adequate with separate bathroom once again adequate as was storage . Property does not offer breakfast but plenty places nearby, averagely maintained , ... The big plus here is its very secure , the employees are so nice and welcoming and the location is fantastic ,Its a two star tourist, traveler hotel at best which is very fairly priced . I would return by myself ."

"Scary.....Not worth staying even been in a great location. Arrived 29th May 25 for 3 nights. Staff at reception very nice....Proceeded to 5th floor and dropped bags and went for dinner close buy on return about 11pm we found, Toilet seat broke, toilet flush broke and left on a shelf, no holder for shower hose over bath, bath screen not fit for purpose water out on floor, cable from TV wrapped around narrow table to prevent it from falling out i guess, glass so dirty the only way you are looking out is to open window, not safe when open as window opens fully and no protection from 5th floor, lift worked once and a alot of steps before port. Stayed the first night and the following morning reported problems to the same guy at reception. Later that evening we returned at 5pm and was told things would get fixed the next day at 12 noon, but we would need to be there and wait while everything was done. Went to room gathered our things and left. We walked a short distance to the HOTEL BEAUVAU and it cost extra but worth every penny for our last 2 nights. We have visited Marseille 5 time in the last 12 months and love the place, pity Hotel De Sud been in such a great location could not step up to the mark."

"Recently stayed here at 50Euro per night, The hotel is located a stone's throw away from Vieux-Port in a side street, hence giving you access to town centre, the metro. With a tiny and almost hidden entrance the hotel, its easy to miss. From the rooms you can hear the hustle and bustle even at night however I like this kind of sound and slept with the windows open. The staff were absolutely fantastic (thanks to the 2 gentlemen and 1 lady) and was manned 24 hours per day. The rooms itself are small and quite basic, and not suited to families, but for single or couples looking for a place to stay. You would consider this a budget hotel without any luxuries at 50 Euro at night, id say its fair value. Thanks for the great stay, staff and location made it great"
