Hotel Mileade L'Orangeraie - Menton

"We stayed at this hotel in July as a family of 5, with 3 teens. The hotel is in a beautiful old building with lovely gardens (and resident cats) and good parking. The old revolving door and main reception area are lovely. Reception staff were friendly and very helpful. The bedrooms are of a good size and bathroom was excellent with a great shower and lovely towels (curtains need to be changed though they are awful) Air conditioning was also fantastic with the heatwave. The breakfast room is gorgeous. Really beautiful, looks like an old ballroom. The breakfast itself was ok. Could have had more variety with hot food and also with fruit etc. There was always a huge queue for the pancake machine. The pool area is very nice, lovely sunbeds (but not enough of them) but strange notice that the indoor pool had an additional fee? Also annoyingly the bar was closed at 10pm with zero chance of getting a drink to bring up to our room. What needs to be said about this hotel is it could be so much more. The walls, skirting and paintwork are tatty. There are no photos/pictures/mirrors on the walls of the corridors. They look quite bleak. The lighting along corridors is also bleak with large Ikea style red lampshades which really don’t suit the building. Bar staff could also be a lot more friendly and helpful. The pool area should have a drinks area and towels hut. When we visited it was during the World Cup and instead of watching the matches in the main lounge area which had lots of seating and a projector screen, they were shown in a small conference room off reception area which was not comfortable or inviting. We went to our rooms and watched on our phones (with no drinks!) which seemed ridiculous. With some small upgrades this hotel could be really fabulous. We did enjoy our stay and Menton is beautiful."

"We just returned for our long planned vacation to France and our stay at Hotel l’orangerie was the low point of the trip. We arrived to find that the air conditioning was out in the peak of summer. I did specifically book hotels with AC for our trip because I have been to Europe many times and am aware AC is not always available. We were not informed until we literally got to our room and it was hot as hell (the lobby and some rooms apparently had ac we would come to find). We were told we could get a 50% refund for our stay (there was literally no place available - I looked and we were exhausted) we stayed three hot miserable nights there. Upon leaving we asked about the refund and they said they would have to validate with their office before proceeding (lie). Upon returning home days later I sent an email and was asked to send my bank account information to someone named Elodie in order to process my refund. I replied and asked to have it credited to the credit I card I had paid in full with when I booked the stay. Still have not heard back and I don’t expect that I will. If you are going to Menton please find another hotel. These people could not care less about their customers servies and worse come off as scammers for your personal information. Very dangerous in a fraud sensitive would. Would not recommend at all."

"On booking I had requested a quiet room as high up as possible with a view. The hotel gave us a nice room on the top (4th) floor on the park side with a lovely view of the gardens and to the sea. The room was quite small but fine and with a fully opening glass door enhancing the view. Breakfast was reasonably good, with a selection of croissants, pains aux chocolates, fruit, yoghurt and a small range of hot options. The location is excellent, only a 5-minute walk to the old town and slightly less to the seafront. The swimming pool is about 15-metres and nicely warm at 27 degrees and with sunbeds around the pool. It wasn't too crowded during our stay but likely to get busier during the summer. The spa is quite small and we found the sauna and hammam were less hot than expected. Access is 20 Euros per person. We also had a massage during out stay, which was a nice option to have. One of the features of the hotel is its beautiful entrance. Walking back from the town through the garden with its orange trees is probably the best entrance to a hotel in the town."
