Steigenberger Pyramids Cairo Hotel – inc Experience Day

"We have recently stayed at Steigenberger Pyramids Cairo from 24-27 Sept 26 and found the following: Location: very convenient right opposite GEM (Grand Egyptian Museum) although you cannot walk across the road but the hotel provides free shuttle transfer at short intervals. It looked like an underground crossing is being built though. Free shuttle to Pyramids of Giza was also available. Room: Pyramid view with balcony, air con worked well. It was cool enough especially at night. I have to commend their bed and pillows. They were super comfy and allow for good night sleep. The bathroom was sizable. The only problem in our room was water leaking from the shower making the floor wet even if the shower room completely closed. House keeping forgot to bring foot towel one night but that's very minor. Room safety box didn't work so we didn't use it. I believe they fixed this upon me informing the guest relation about it. F&B: the buffets were good with a wide range of choice. Dinner buffets were somewhat pricey but good enough for the choices and taste. Be prepared to pay upon each meal (except for breakfast which is included in the room rate) since they don't allow you to put it on the room account unless you pay a minimum deposit of 50 USD. Other facilities and outlets: the public toilet was clean and worked well. We didn't use the swimming pool nor did we use the bar. A spa is being built. Service: overall staff were friendly enough. Tour/Taxi desk: This seems to be from an outside company who rented the hotel's space. We did have a problem here since we wanted to visit the Giza pyramids with a guide. The young girl who was supposed to be the manager was not very knowledgeable yet seemed to rush us into making a decision. Once we paid and agreed on time the next day, the guide was 1 hour late. The so called manager wasn't there to explain anything and we were tend to by the older men who couldn't speak English well. They kept saying go sit and wait. Then after 30 mins of waiting they came to us and said that the guide is coming in 10 mins. That calmed us down a bit somewhat but still we waited and waited. Once the manager and the guide arrived she blamed the traffic. That's it. So we wasted 1 hour sitting around at the lobby. We could have woken up later had we known they were going to be 1 hour late. Special thanks to Caroline at Guest relations who helped us at the airport pick up transfer since it took longer than we thought to come out past customs and immigration. The taxi and transfer is outside the airport. You have to get out of the airport first to find the driver but once you go out you can't come back in so we called the hotel and Caroline used WhatsApp to communicate with us until we found the driver. She then had the courtesy to help with booking online ticket for GEM. And most impressive was when we checked out, Caroline came over and asked about our stay and we told her that the only problem we had was with the tour desk being late by an hour. She did offer us a complimentary transfer to our next destination which was another hotel in Giza, by way of an apology. That was much appreciated. On hindsight compared to another hotel in Giza (Azal Pyramids) which we did stay for 1 night, Steigenberger was heaven."
