"I contacted the hotel in advance via Booking.com chat and WhatsApp to explain that I was unable to travel as planned and asked whether an exceptional cancellation could be considered due to unforeseen circumstances. Communication was limited and unclear, with occasional replies such as “don’t worry my friend,” but without any concrete confirmation. When my friend called the property on my behalf, the hotel stated verbally that if the room were rebooked, a full refund would be provided; otherwise, a partial refund would be given, which we accepted. However, after the reservation date passed, I received no further response from the hotel. I then contacted Booking.com customer service and was informed that the property had reported that I behaved offensively toward staff during my stay as we as repeatedly complained about the New Year’s fireworks which was impossible as I never checked in. After I raised this issue, Booking.com confirmed that the hotel had reported the wrong guest. Unfortunately, no apology or clarification was provided by the hotel. Despite this, the hotel refused to approve the cancellation and did not follow their stated no-show policy regarding a partial refund. Booking.com ultimately had to intervene multiple times to resolve the situation. An excellent location cannot compensate for misleading communication and failure to honor stated policies. The hotel’s actions demonstrated a lack of accountability and sincerity, making it difficult to trust any assurances provided by their staff.
