Location: in terms of travelling around, exploring and going on excursions, the hotel is based in a fairly decent place only a short drive / cycle away from interesting locations. The weather in October was spot-on for us to catch a great tan but not be roasting hot. The boy enjoyed exploring the local area in just shorts and sandals (with a good layer of sun protection). There is a rocky/pebble cove just 90 seconds walk away which is great for exploring crabs, sea swimming, snorkelling, etc. I recommend buying some cheap sea-shoes so you can easily walk around without worrying about pebbles/rocks hurting your feet. We used cheap sea-shoes from Amazon and they made our sea-exploring experiences so much better. There’s a lot of stop-off points along the coastal path for views and other beaches. Another good beach is Venus Bleu beach, around 15 minute walk away or 3/4 mins on the e-scooters. This is a lovely sandy “proper” beach. As a keen runner, I ran the coastal path to the lighthouse and back most mornings and took a swim at Venus Bleu a couple of times mid-run. You can box a lovely 5 or 10k off just by doing the coastal path.
Rooms: lovely, decent beds, pillows are good but not amazing. We had a 1st floor “side sea view” but it was pretty much a full sea view overlooking the pool area. Great views capturing the sunset. Clean and cool. Air conditioning did its job. Mini-fridge to store milk for a brew, etc. Kettle provided with lots of English Tea bags, white/brown sugar, coffee sachets, milk cream pots (just smuggle a glass of milk up instead and leave it in the fridge). Shower was powerful and in the bath tub. Bath tub was fairly clean but could do with re-siliconing as it was a bit grey (not quite moldy but heading that way). The room did its job. Noise at night was fairly quiet despite being relatively close to the entertainment area; our 3yo slept like a brick. 3yo was on a small, single bed but we just pushed it next to ours. Rooms cleaned daily unless you hang the “do not disturb” sign. Cleaners lovely.
Aesthetic: Hotel is fairly basic but in a good way; less is more. Lots of white, clean places to sit and chill. Plenty of sunbeds. Good pool views and the coastal backdrop is always lovely. Nice water fountains by the pool and decent balconies/seating areas to chill with a brew/beer.
Food: always a few really nice options and then your standard hotel foods ie pasta, chips, filler food. Some great grilled/lean meats and some surprisingly good stews/broths/soups. Lots of really fresh salads, fruit and veg. Lots of cool deserts and always a hot desert ie cherry pie, baked cheesecake, apple crumble etc. Breakfast: everything for a full English however the sausages are the European kind. Lots of yoghurt options, berries, toppers, honey, spread, bread, croissants, pan au chocolate, breakfast cake things, pancakes with toppings, etc. My 3yo ate really well and we never went hungry. There are 3 a-la-carte restaurants in the hotel: Greek (by the sea), Italian and Mexican (both on the roof top). All three are fantastic and I recommend booking them all. You get 1 visit in each restaurant if you’re staying for 7 days or more on an all-inclusive basis. The rooftop views are brilliant and the Greek (by the sea) restaurant is just lovely and ambient. Great, restaurant quality food also!
Child Friendly: the waterpark is great. It’s just over the private road, to the left. It was pretty much empty during our stay. Two decent “big slides” for toddlers and a splash park area. And then around 7/8 adult slides which were very fun. Lazy river circles the adult slides (fine for young children also). A nice big, clean swimming pool and a bar area. Lots of deck chairs and spaces to relax (bring your towels from the hotel). Very quiet and chilled atmosphere but super fun. My 3yo was climbing the toddler steps himself and flying down the slides into our arms. He buzzed off it. Also, lots of bathing lizards all around the rocks which are cool to look at/watch (They don’t come anywhere near you). We caught 6 of them by being quick and gentle with them (isolate them on the floor are surround with your arms. Once they hop on your arm they sit still and can be admired). Son loved it and released them unharmed back to where they came from. The hotel was also great for kids. Lots of kids playing nicely together and the mini disco at night burnt some energy out.
Beaches: as mentioned, the direct sea-front is rocky and not accessible unless you walk around 90 seconds to the right of the path where you get to a pebble cove area. It captures the sun nicely and you can sit around and chill or go for a swim. Son was walking around in his sea shoes exploring and catching crabs. We found a small squid which was super cool. Lots of little fish if you use goggles/a snorkel. I swam out a few times to some rocks around 70 yards into the sea where you can safely climb up and dive back in. The next nearest beach is Venus Bleu which (I believe) is a man-made beautiful sandy beach. There are breakwater-rocks here so the beach / shoreline is nice and calm. You can swim out around 50 yards to the breakwater rocks. Safely marked zone for swimming in a calm and relaxed area. There’s a small section on the right side which captures the waves nicely; this is like a “wild sea” section that isn’t marked for swimming. Lots of people/children here jumping the waves and having fun. There are other beaches along the sea front if you use a scooter/fancy a longer walk. I would honestly just buy some cheap sea shoes and use the little cove area to explore and have fun; Venus Bleu is a nice beach with good changing/shower facilities but you can have the same amount of fun at the little pebble cove next to the hotel.
Staff: check-in staff were lovely. Any native/Cypriot or eastern-European staff were lovely. The (male) waiters in the restaurant were a bit ignorent but the (female) waitresses were all lovely and cheerful. The Cypriot foom cleaning ladies were so nice. The Bar staff (main hotel bar and pool bars) could learn how to smile but maybe they were just having bad days. The reason for the 6/10 is because of these reasons:
- during the towel exchange service, I stood waiting by a “back in 10 minutes” sign for 20 minutes along with other customers. We decided to explore cupboards/doors nearby to find fresh towels. I opened one door to the swimming pool pump room and was met by a man with his feet up on 2 chairs in the pitch black asking me “WHAT DO YOU WANT”. He told me “NO TOWELS HERE” and I closed the door. I thought this was strange and quite rude but then opened another door nearby and found a female speaking on the phone in the pitch black. She was rude but started to help looking towels. I believe that both staff members were dossing / hiding from work. For hotel identification purposes: The man was a tall, slim, black male in a yellow shirt and red shorts (seemingly a lifeguard) and he was just watching reels on his phone in the dark. The female was a small, larger build, black female with shoulder-length afro carribean hair. Both rude and seemingly hiding from customers.
- disclaimer: the waterpark is not directly attached to the hotel but hotel guests are allowed entry, so I an reviewing this as it is closely affiliated. The waterpark staff were mostly non-natives from Bangladesh and India (they told me this in open-conversation). One of them mocked my 3 year old’s stammer (speech) and laughed it off when confronted. Another was literally sleeping whilst at the top of the CHILD SLIDES where he was meant to be supervising TODDLERS and YOUNG CHILDREN. He wore a red hat, reflective shades and ear pods. He had a yellow t-shirt on over a long-sleeved black technical base-layer. He was asleep for at least 30 mins and I even waved in his face a few times to see if he’d wake up. My son walked past him and used the slides independently at least 10 times on his “watch”. There were two eastern-european (young female and young male) life guards who were fantastic and watched the kids very professionally. The Asian staff were on their phones a lot and chatting/sleeping a lot. One of them was very nice and quite attentive but the other 5/6 might as well have not been there."
