"This was our first stay at King Jason Protaras and from the moment we arrived in the very early hours, we were made to feel welcome. The reception staff were lovely and took us straight to our room. Waking up the next morning to that view was amazing.
The hotel is beautiful, spotlessly clean and in a fantastic location. Being a smaller hotel gives it such a personal feel – the staff remember you, what you drink and all the little things you like.
The staff are quite simply exceptional. We’ve stayed in a lot of hotels over the years, but I genuinely don’t think we’ve ever had service as attentive as we did here.
Maria in the restaurant is an absolute diamond. Always smiling, friendly and so attentive. She knew what I wanted to drink at mealtimes before I knew myself and kept me topped up throughout – which probably explains a few unplanned afternoon snoozes on my sun lounger! 😂
Dennis was also brilliant and seemed to work tirelessly. He was constantly bringing drinks from the bar and coming around the pool taking orders. Nothing was ever too much trouble and we certainly never got the chance to be thirsty!
Andre was another one who made our holiday – always smiling, always up for a laugh and nothing was too much trouble. This included the night we jokingly asked for 24 Baby Guinness and, much to our amusement, 24 Baby Guinness actually appeared! 😂 Lesson learned – don’t jokingly order drinks from Andre because he WILL deliver!
Abdul, the lifeguard, was another character who added plenty of laughs to our days around the pool. Such a genuinely lovely, funny guy.
The manager also deserves a special mention, although unfortunately I can’t remember his name. He seemed to know straight away that we were new guests and came over to introduce himself and ask how long we were staying.
Towards the end of the holiday he overheard us asking if there was any chance of keeping our room later because we had such a late flight home. He came over, told us he was working on it and then came back to us having actually made it happen. Things like that really do make a difference.
He was always around during mealtimes too, speaking to guests, checking everything was running smoothly and making sure everyone was happy. You could tell he genuinely cared about people having a good stay. The service throughout this hotel is exceptional and I think that clearly comes from the top.
There are honestly so many other members of staff we could mention. The whole team work incredibly hard but somehow manage to make the service feel really personal. We were completely spoiled and they’ve definitely set the bar ridiculously high for wherever we stay next!
Pools & sunbeds
The pool areas are lovely and the large round daybeds on the raised platforms overlooking the pools are gorgeous. On the mornings we happened to be up early enough, we managed to get one and loved sitting there.
We’re definitely not early risers though and thankfully you don’t need to be! We never had a problem getting sunbeds throughout our stay, so there was none of the dreaded getting-up-at-dawn, towel-under-the-arm sunbed dash!
Our room
We had a sea-view suite on the third floor and it was beautiful – spacious, spotlessly clean and with a fabulous view.
If I had to find a slight negative, it would be the balcony. We like to sit outside and although you could, ours was quite small and felt a little tight. When we return, we’ll definitely try to request a room with a larger balcony.
The other small issue for us was the air conditioning. I believe it’s capped at around 18°C and personally we would have liked the room considerably cooler.
Neither of these things would stop us returning, but a bigger balcony and colder air conditioning would have made the room perfect.
Food & drinks
The food was fabulous.
Because of my dietary preferences, all-inclusive hotels can sometimes be difficult for me, but not here. There was always a good variety and if I couldn’t find a meal suitable for me, they would simply make something for me. You really don’t get that level of service everywhere.
And finally – proper coffee! 😂 Anyone who loves coffee will understand the holiday struggle. Fabulous coffee at breakfast and pretty much any type of coffee you wanted throughout the day.
The drinks were just as good. If they had the ingredients, they’d make it. Our favourites were the Espresso Martini, Aperol Spritz and Floral Whisper, while the rosé Prosecco became more of a necessity for me at mealtimes than an optional extra! 😂
And apparently ordering 24 Baby Guinness isn’t a problem either!
Location
The location honestly couldn’t be much better.
You’re right by beautiful Fig Tree Bay, with the promenade directly in front of the hotel. Turn left and you’re straight towards Protaras, turn right and there are some lovely coastal walks.
We even managed to get ourselves up at 5:45am to watch the sunrise one morning – quite an achievement for us 😂 – and it was absolutely worth the alarm. So peaceful and definitely one of those holiday moments we’ll remember.
The beach is directly at the back of the hotel and you’ve got watersports on the doorstep.
We also hired a private boat from the seafront for a few hours to explore the coastline, which I’d definitely recommend. It was one of the highlights of our holiday and such a lovely way to see more of the area.
Overall
King Jason Protaras is a beautiful, immaculate hotel in an amazing location, but the staff are what really make this place special.
The attention, friendliness and genuinely personal service is something we haven’t experienced anywhere else. From remembering our drinks to keeping us entertained around the pool, the whole team genuinely couldn’t do enough for us.
There are a couple of tiny things we’d change – a bigger balcony and colder air conditioning – but neither would put us off returning.
In fact, we’re already talking about “next time”, which probably says everything.
Thank you to Maria, Dennis, Andre, Abdul, the manager and the whole King Jason team for completely spoiling us.
You’ve made going back to normal service very difficult"
