Ouril Hotel Julia

"We landed in this hotel because we had no choice. We had to stay in another hotel but, they sent us here because they had overbooked and so our stay could not be honored. The room is basic with balcony overlooking the street. The bathroom was basic, nothing more than essential. Humidity level, the shower joints were in a deplorable state. The soundproofing is catastrophic and guests have been constantly slamming the doors; it was an ordeal to be able to rest. The staff is not pleasant. The breakfasts are more than basic. Everything fits on a piece of counter. Definitely the least appetizing breakfast of our stay in Cape Verde. We eat on a pseudo bar facing a wall. A hotel to avoid. The only highlight is its location in the heart of the pedestrian street."

"We assume that the photos you find on Booking are different from the actual appearance of the room as all the furniture is quite dated. The shower, every time it was used, flooded the bathroom forcing us to use the towels in the room. Not to mention the handle and shower head that kept disassembling and falling to the ground. The breakfast offered is very basic and the reception of the morning staff is very bad and unpleasant as they are not even able to welcome customers and speak in a language other than the local one (smiling is free). Also before our arrival we were asked several times to transfer from the airport to the hotel as our plane would arrive late at night but the only thing they were able to do is to answer us the day after our arrival. AWFUL The only good thing about this hotel is the great location as it is located in the main street of Santa Maria, otherwise I think Santa Maria has other better hotels to offer."

"Booked well in advance and got there and they had over booked. Got sent by taxi to somewhere else for 1 night in the middle of nowhere, Vila Verde. Nothing to eat and nothing to drink and nowhere to get anything, not even water. Was put in a lift with another couple but then the lift broke down and we got stuck inside. No one came after constantly pushing emergency button and no one around to hear us banging lift doors. We had to prise the lift doors open to get out. Next day I was put in a taxi to take me back to my booked hotel. The manager rang and tried to persuade me to go to another hotel but I declined. My room at Julia was spacious and the bed was comfortable. I did find that the shower was not draining and found a large clump of slimey hair down the drain larger than my palm, which I put in bin. The breakfast was fine but no where to put plate down when putting food on it. I found the breakfast bar was difficult for me to eat off as too high and very often no space left to eat. The place mats were disgustingly filthy and never cleaned as was the back wall behind the breakfast bar. I found that 1 member of staff the small girl with the plated hair extremely rude and acted like she didn't want to be there. She rarely spoke to me, I am a polite person and when I give or take my key at the reception I always use please and thank you but she never responded and most of the time didn't even look up at me. She was on her phone all the time and I did notice she had her earbuds in listening to music instead of interacting with guests who are paying her wages. The late afternoon and evening staff were lovely and always greeted me and others and were very professional. Would i stay there again? Location and room were good but apart from that then NO I would not stay again. I felt like an unwanted guest."
