Hotel Odjo d Agua

"Given that Sal Island in Capo Verde is a total crap heap - Hotel Odja D'Agua has a relatively good position. One view from the balcony is the sea and the other is a building site. The restaurant is excellent however and boasts a glorious position right on the Atlantic. Staff in restaurant generally good and pleasant. The rest of the hotel staff are for the most part rude and unhelpful. Notably unhelpful are reception and maid staff. My advice is under no circumstances go to Sal island. It is ghastly!"

"We have been travelling to Cape Verde for 20 years, and this hotel was one of the originals on Sal. We have many fond memories of the place and were really looking forward to visiting again. Since last visiting 10 years ago the hotel has been extended in terms of accommodation, but has totally lost its family appeal, quality and service. Our room in the ‘new block’ was tired. The shower was lukewarm warm and it took over 2 days to sort it out. We had problems with the safe (quickly resolved). Light fittings not working properly or hanging out of the ceiling in the bathroom. Wardrobe doors that didn’t slide properly. Poor standard of bath towels and I could go on! With a couple of exceptions, the staff were unwelcoming, unsmiling and inefficient. The lifeguard, however, was exceptional! My husband is partially sighted, and he personally escorted him to a safe part of the beach where he could swim without fear of treading or tripping on rocks - and watched out for him. He sought out sun loungers from other areas of the beach when there weren’t any near the hotel. Total STAR. Would we go back there - sadly, no. It has one of the best locations on Sal ruined by tired facilities and abysmal service."

"Dreadful. Wrong order wrong wine! Not interested in our complaint. Just wanted payment !Despite many good meals there their attitude was inexcusable! Will not recommend or return again!"
