Hotel Da Luz

"I get sad reading some reviews. Very good, if I go back to Cape Verde I will stay at the Luz hotel without a doubt. I stayed 5 nights and I can say very honestly the following: The rooms are very good, clean, and modern. Our accommodations had 2 rooms, both with AC. I have never lacked hot water. I had a problem with the autoclave that was literally resolved in 30 min. Internet in the hotel common areas and in the room is fast and without problems. The TV worked but we never used it. Breakfast was limited, yes, but they don't go hungry. They have what is necessary and it is possible to order different dishes in the kitchen. The impeccable staff, very helpful. I didn't try the restaurant. The pool without anything to say, clean and correct pH. Yes there are dogs and cats walking in the hotel, but they are in Cape Verde, live the experience. If you want to stay in the bubble, opt for a 5-star resort. If you want the Cape Verde experience with European-style accommodations, stay at Hotel da Luz. The location is good, close to the center of Santa Maria and the areas of interest. But the hotel is located in a typical area and not in the part most geared towards tourists, which is why they complain about the location. I recommend."

"I stay 2 weeks in this hotel and I would not come back again.
The breakfast didn't have much variety and many things were missing. For example, only one choice of cold cuts and cheese. Only one morning there were sausages. Other mornings there were stews containing chickpeas, beans, cabbage or vegetables. Only few mornings there were fresh vegetables. The croissants, breads and pastries were dry almost every morning. The food often ran out and you had to ask for more so that the staff could bring more. It usually took many minutes for new ones to arrive. The staff in the kitchen did not have a very service-oriented attitude.

The hotel room didn't have a proper blanket, just a thin sheet. The balcony door in the hotel room was broken and I asked for it to be fixed three times on different days, and it was not fixed during the entire stay. There was no water coming out of the shower or tap for several days. So if you want to shower, it is not possible all the time. WiFi only works in public areas of the hotel, not in the hotel rooms. The TV was also not working.

The pool was smaller than in the pictures."

"Hotel poorly located, with good infrastructure, poor breakfast, there are better options in Santa Maria. I stayed in this hotel 1 night because my hotel was in overbooking. + Good rooms and accommodation. + Good wifi + Good quality of sleep - Shower needs updating - Weak and painful breakfast. - Poor location, in Santa Maria."
