Grand Hotel Sofia

"Beautiful historic renovated hotel that used to house a bank. Rooms are very spacious. Full service hotel with full buffet breakfast and omelet station, lobby bar serving snacks and dinner restaurant. There is also a nightclub in the lower level . The nightclub is interesting because it used to the vault when the bank was operating and they cleverly kept the door and safety deposit boxes as part of the decor. Appropriately named the Vault, it is worth.a look even if nightclubs are not your thing. Fully staffed with bellman service and concierge. It is arguably the best located hotel in Sofia for tourists at the edge of Old Town. I can be stingy with five star ratings, but this hotel,earned it in my opinion."

"A stay of real contrasts, with plenty to like but a few things worth knowing before you book. The rooms are the highlight: spacious, very comfortable beds, and a beautiful bathroom with an enormous bath. Two caveats. The standard pillows are poor, so make use of the pillow menu — it's there for a reason. And there's no soap or gel anywhere near the bath itself, so you have to climb out and go over to the shower, where it's wall-mounted. A small thing, but odd in a room this well appointed. Finish quality is inconsistent. My room had a cracked window, which is a little unnerving in a glass building, and a downlight in the bathroom that had been plastered in very roughly and was still waiting to be painted. Service is similarly mixed. Half the staff were warm and genuinely helpful; the other half were brusque to the point of rudeness. It made for a strange, unpredictable experience. Two other things to be aware of. The hotel charges separately for almost everything, including access to the pool and steam room, which is unusual — most hotels include it. And with only six lifts serving a very large building, mornings are a real bottleneck. I waited fifteen minutes for a lift today. Breakfast itself is good, with a solid selection. Getting to it at peak time is the hard part. Decent value, but I would probably not stay here again. It thinks it's better than it is really"

"I innocently booked a 5-star central hotel in the heart of Sofia. We are in wheelchairs, and the main entrance is not accessible, but through the kitchen. Executive suite family room, luxurious, air conditioner that is not an air conditioner, noisy fan outside 40 degrees. There is no way to open the window opening. Dust everywhere. The recent ones that were on Marie Antoinette had a funny smell. After we left, I asked the reception to clean our room, it wasn't cleaned! The garbage overflowed its banks, towels were not replaced. I do not recommend it at all"
