"Very disappointing – please look at recent photos before booking.
We stayed at Sunrise Blue Magic Resort in September 2026 and unfortunately this was one of the worst holidays we have experienced.
The hotel is advertised as a 4-star all-inclusive resort, but the standard we experienced was nowhere near what we expected. In my honest opinion, it felt closer to a 2-star hotel at best.
The biggest disappointment was the overall condition of the resort. There was overgrown grass and vegetation, unkempt landscaping, dirty and weathered areas, deteriorating wooden walkways and parts of the resort that looked neglected or unfinished. There were also areas where the paint was coming off and the whole property simply looked like it wasn't being properly looked after.
The pool area was particularly disappointing. There was visible dirt, staining and significant build-up around the pool drainage grilles, with vegetation and debris in places. Some of the surrounding areas also looked dirty and poorly maintained.
These weren't tiny imperfections or things that we simply personally disliked. They were obvious issues that you could see just walking around the resort.
The beach was also very disappointing and did not look like the beach shown in the TUI promotional photographs. The advertising showed a much more attractive and well-maintained area, including Havana-style beds/cabanas that did not reflect what we found during our stay. Parts of the beach facilities and wooden walkways looked weathered and poorly maintained, with litter and debris in some areas.
I strongly recommend looking at recent guest photographs before booking rather than relying only on the promotional photographs.
Our bathroom was another disappointment. There was visible discolouration and build-up around the shower tray, grout, drainage and sealant.
The beds and pillows were extremely uncomfortable. Myself and my parents regularly woke up with back and neck discomfort, which affected our sleep throughout the holiday.
The gym was also in poor condition. Some equipment looked old and poorly maintained, with loose or dangling cables and parts and equipment/materials left on the floor. It did not give us much confidence in the maintenance of the facility.
Food & drinks
I want to be fair about the food — the food itself was actually very tasty. Our main complaint wasn't the taste or quality of the food.
However, during the last few days there seemed to be a lot of pork being served, which became repetitive and disappointing, particularly for people who don't eat pork every day.
The all-inclusive offering itself was also disappointing. At the snack bar/late breakfast we were told that we could order only one item per person. The lunch menu also stated one salad, one main course and one dessert per person.
The à la carte restaurant was repeatedly fully booked when we tried to reserve it. We were told by a waiter that guests from other Sunrise hotels were also allowed to use it, which made getting a booking even more difficult.
The included local alcoholic drinks were extremely poor in our experience. They had a very strong chemical-like taste and caused an unpleasant burning sensation in the throat. We simply couldn't enjoy them, so we ended up buying our own drinks for 6 of the 7 nights.
Another problem was the lack of suitable tables for larger families. We were a family of five, and it was often very difficult to find a table large enough for us. We regularly saw tables designed for 5–6 or more people being occupied by groups of only 2–3 people, leaving larger families struggling to find somewhere to sit. On several occasions we had to sit outside because we couldn't find a suitable table.
On our first day, we managed to move two tables together so that our family could sit together. A member of staff came over and told us, “No, no, not allowed.” I asked where we were supposed to sit as a family of five, but he simply walked away without offering us an alternative.
For a family resort, this was extremely frustrating. There should be enough appropriate seating and some reasonable way of accommodating larger families, rather than leaving them searching for tables or having to sit separately/outside.
Entertainment
The entertainment was extremely poor quality.
We went to two of the evening shows during our stay and on both occasions we left after approximately 10–15 minutes because it was genuinely difficult to watch.
For a 4-star all-inclusive resort, we expected much better entertainment.
Staff & communication
Communication was also difficult because many members of staff spoke very little English or were unable to communicate effectively.
Even the restaurant manager tried to explain something to us but was unable to communicate it clearly.
I understand that English does not have to be everyone's first language, but when you're staying at an international holiday resort, guests need to be able to communicate properly when asking questions, understanding restrictions or trying to raise concerns.
We also did not see or speak to a TUI representative during our stay. We received no phone call, message or notification from reception telling us that a TUI representative was available for us.
When I contacted TUI about the problems, I was told that I should have reported them straight away so that someone could have been sent to investigate and sort them out. I understand that guests should report problems where they become aware of them, but I do not believe it is reasonable to expect a holidaymaker to inspect the entire hotel and report every cleanliness, maintenance and facility issue they find.
I am not the manager of the hotel, nor am I responsible for checking whether the pool, walkways, landscaping, gym equipment, beach facilities and other communal areas are being properly maintained. These are things that hotel management should already be monitoring as part of running the resort.
We came on holiday to relax and spend time with our family. We should not have to spend our holiday walking around looking for problems, taking photographs and reporting them one by one in order for basic standards to be maintained.
What other guests said
We spoke to several other families around the pool, independently of each other, and they were saying very similar things.
They also felt that the resort did not look like the hotel shown in the advertising, were unhappy about having to buy their own drinks and described it as one of the worst holidays they had experienced.
They were also disappointed with the entertainment.
Obviously, those are their personal opinions, but it was noticeable that we weren't the only guests raising these concerns.
Final night
Our final night was particularly unpleasant.
At around 12:30am, an intoxicated guest was shouting in the corridor directly outside our room, waking me, my parents and my child.
The police eventually attended and the guest was returned to her room.
This completely disrupted our sleep on the final night of our holiday.
Overall
What disappointed me most is that we ended up spending a significant amount of our holiday taking photographs and documenting the condition of the resort instead of simply relaxing and enjoying time with our family.
Holidaymakers shouldn't have to spend their holiday acting as hotel inspectors to document basic cleanliness and maintenance problems.
This isn't about expecting perfection or complaining about a small mark on a wall. There were repeated issues throughout the resort with cleanliness, maintenance, facilities, the beach, pool, accommodation, entertainment and the all-inclusive offering.
For us, this simply wasn't the 4-star all-inclusive holiday we expected.
⭐ 1/5
We would not return to this hotel. I strongly recommend checking recent guest reviews and, most importantly, recent guest photographs before booking. What you see in the promotional photographs may not be what you find when you arrive."
