Mercure Wien Westbahnhof

"The hotel is situated in an old building close to Vienna Westbahnhof. Check-in was fast and efficient with a friendly member of staff. Due to my Accor All Status, I was upgraded to room 701 with extra space, a couch and a working desk. The bed is very comfortable and safe and minibar (with free drinks) are provided. The Wi-Fi is usable, but you need to log in every day again. A Nepresso machine is provided in the upgrade. The bathroom is old and has seen better days. Irritating is the fluctuating water temperature when taking a shower. It goes from hot to cold and you have to keep adjusting the tap. And because this is an old building with little insulation, the outside noise of a busy road enters the room, so if you are a light sleeper, bring ear plugs. Basically, this is a Mercure of the lower category, closer to the Ibis then to the Novotel brand of Accor. But it is also a lot cheaper than the other Mercure hotels in Vienna. If you only need a room to sleep and shower in, this hotel is an option. If you want the usual luxury of Mercure, pay a little more for an alternative hotel."

"We booked to stay at the Hotel Mercure Wien Westbahnhof. This is rated 4 stars on most sites. This should be 2 stars! I have stayed at many Mercures in the past and have had lovely stays. When booking this we had to pay extra to have A/C, fridge (needed to put medication in) and a safe. These are called Superior rooms. In Vienna, in summer, you need AC. These rooms are NOT superior and very small and the furniture is dated. When booking, I asked twice to have a walk-in shower due to my disability and was told they would help (once through Expedia and once through a direct email to the hotel). I also explained at reception when we arrived they just did not care, and they refused. The shower was not safe and became very slippy. I was unable to use it after the first time. My request to have a walk in the shower due to a disability was ignored. The AC would stop during the night and the room would become very hot. The bed itself was a double. The mattress was very firm & hard and uncomfortable to sleep on. The curtains did not close properly, and they did not block out the light. The walls had a terrible paint job and the carpet had holes in. I asked for a quiet floor, but the room was next to the lift and was very noisy at nighttime. The door had a spy hole with no cover, so light came through at night. They advertise a mini-bar on the booking and website, but there is none. Not ever bottled water in the rooms. Most 4-star hotels leave water on arrival in the rooms or offer it. The only good thing is the location of the hotel, near the tram, bus and underground stations and nearby shops. Avoid booking here if staying in Vienna. This is NOT a 4-star hotel and the rooms they sell has Superior are NOT. This hotel is also NOT disabled-friendly and will ignore all special requests."

"Utterly inflexible with non-refundable rate. Buyer beware. I booked the hotel based on our original flights, and then my airline cancelled our flight out of Vienna. We were rebooked on a different flight a couple of days later. I approached the hotel not for a refund but a simple change of dates which they coldly refused to do even though the exact same room/price. They also refused to refund even partially. Whilst I understand I agreed to the terms and conditions and am not questioning their right to refuse, I find it abhorrent that they would be so inflexible. It is the epitome of poor customer service, and has not only cost them a customer, but will cost them many more customers due to my (and others') poor reviews. You can keep my money but I will never consider your hotel again."
