Algarve holidays

A jaw-dropping beauty in Portugal

At the southwestern tip of Portugal, people once believed that this was the edge of the world. Today there’s no doubt that Sagres, with its centuries of myths and legends, still carries some of that mystic charm. Sagres holidays transport you away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, and can be as relaxing or as energetic as you wish. If you decide to kick back on one of the sun-kissed beaches, then think about factoring in an ice-cold beer, as these days Sagres is perhaps best known as the home of one of Portugal’s biggest-selling lagers.

On the other hand, if you’re after something more active then there are masses of water sports to try, including surfing and paragliding. At whatever pace you explore, on holidays to Sagres you’ll discover some of Portugal’s most beautiful beaches, prettiest coves and magical natural caves.

Your Sagres questions, answered

Given its coastal location there’s great seafood, and you’ll find delicious fish stews and fresh octopus. Excellent local produce offers plenty for vegetarians and meat-lovers, too.
The Sagres water-sports scene means there are lots of independent surf-themed shops. Look out for locally crafted pottery, olive oils and finely embroidered fabrics, too.
Sagres has activities to entertain everyone, from families to groups of friends. Rugged coastline walks and romantic, secluded coves also make it a good choice for couples.

Best things to do in Sagres

Visit the world’s end

Visit the historic lighthouse at Cabo de Sao Vicente to watch the dramatic, seemingly endless ocean waves – it’s not hard to imagine you’re at the edge of the world.

Go surfing

With nothing but the Atlantic between here and America, surfers flock to Sagres for some of the world’s biggest waves. Join in, or watch from the beach bar.

Take a hike

The Rota Vicentina hiking trail extends all the way along Portugal’s west coast – almost 400 kilometres in total – but a manageable stretch begins in Sagres.
