In a scene straight from ancient mythology, Anubis, the Egyptian god of the afterlife, stopped London commuters dead in their tracks as they descended upon the capital this morning.

The spectacle unfolded as rush hour crowds encountered a mysterious trio marching around iconic London landmarks.

The towering deities, adorned with the distinctive jackal-headed mask of Anubis, appeared at Oxford Circus and Regent Street before emerging from underground at Piccadilly Circus, and making their way towards the river Thames and the oldest London landmark gifted from ancient Egypt, Cleopatra’s Needle.

The ancient emissaries’ pilgrimage embraced modern conveniences, waiting at bus stops whilst passers-by gawked and laughed at the unusual, otherworldly scene.

Showcasing how Egypt is closer than you think, the three figures were promoting easyJet Holidays’ new package deals to Luxor, Egypt’s ancient capital, including new 7-night Nile cruise packages.

With bookings available from London Gatwick starting November 11th, easyJet Holidays’ first  cruise package offers holidaymakers an unforgettable Nile cruise, expanding the company’s options for a wider range of holidays with something for everyone.

Aligning with flight times for ease, the new Nile cruise packages feature a selection of vessels, each equipped with sun decks, swimming pools and bars. These floating hotels sail from Luxor to Aswan via Edfu and Kom Ombo, with a comprehensive week-long itinerary showcasing nearby ancient wonders including the Valley of the Kings, the High Dam, the temple of Queen Hatshepsut, and the Colossi of Memnon.

For those who prefer to stay on land, there is a range of fantastic hotels, including the 4* Sonesta St George Luxor, and the 5* Jolie Ville Kings Island.

Paul Bixby, Chief Commercial Officer at easyJet Holidays said: “It's not every day you come face to face with Egyptian Gods - especially in central London, so it was great to see people's reactions.

“Our new Nile cruises make the grandeur of ancient Egypt more accessible than ever with a range options to choose from, including the Iberotel Crown Empress and the Jaz Crown Jubilee.”
