"I am writing this review to warn other travellers, as our stay at Ramada by Wyndham Pera, Istanbul was by far the worst hotel experience we have ever had. We booked this hotel in good faith because of the Ramada brand name and its supposed 5-star rating, but what we experienced was nowhere near acceptable for any hotel, let alone one carrying a global brand.
1. Staff intimidation and threatening behaviour
The most shocking part of our stay was the behaviour of the staff. Instead of helping guests or resolving issues, they became confrontational and even attempted to call the police on us simply because we raised genuine concerns about safety hazards in our room and the breakfast area. This was humiliating, intimidating, and completely unacceptable. No guest should ever have to experience this kind of treatment.
2. Unsafe facilities that caused actual injuries
My wife sustained a painful bruise from an unsafe, badly designed bed frame in our room. I personally received a burn from the faulty toaster at breakfast. These are not small issues—they are serious safety failures that a hotel should take responsibility for immediately.
3. Extremely small rooms and poor facilities
The rooms were tiny, much smaller than advertised, and absolutely nowhere near a 5-star standard. The facilities were poorly maintained, and the overall environment did not reflect the price we paid or the brand reputation we trusted.
4. No apology, no accountability
What made the situation worse was the hotel staff’s complete lack of remorse. At no point did anyone apologise for the injuries, the distress, or the disgraceful behaviour of their team. Instead, we were met with defensiveness, dismissal, and hostility.
5. Holiday completely ruined
This was meant to be a special celebration—my 50th birthday—but the entire holiday was overshadowed and ruined by the staff’s behaviour, the safety issues, and the overall poor experience. Instead of relaxing, we spent our time dealing with conflict and feeling unsafe in the hotel.
6. Head office provided no real help
Even when escalating the issue to Wyndham, the response was weak and unhelpful. We were offered a token gesture of reward points—something that couldn’t even cover a single night’s stay—and no one took ownership of the serious problems we raised. A representative even told us that it was “the franchisee’s issue”, which is shocking considering the Ramada brand name is still being used.
Final verdict:
This hotel failed us at every level—safety, customer service, professionalism, and basic human decency. What should have been a memorable holiday became a stressful and upsetting experience.
I strongly advise travellers to avoid this hotel entirely.
There are many better and safer options in Istanbul. We will never return, and we will never trust this property—or any Ramada franchise in Turkey—again."
