"This hotel was rated as a 3+ star establishment by Jet2, and we reasonably expected a comfortable and safe environment to enjoy our holiday. Unfortunately, this was far from the experience we had.
We arrived in the early hours and were allocated a room on the fourth floor. I usually request a lower floor due to accessibility and health reasons, particularly as both my wife and I are Deaf and experience balance issues. I cannot confirm whether the request was made at the time of booking, but regardless, we were extremely alarmed to find that the balcony balustrade in our room was dangerously low. This posed a significant health and safety risk – not just for us, but for any guest.
The communication with the receptionist on our arrival was also very difficult. His communication was very brief, which limited our ability to resolve issues effectively only to say to come in the morning to see the manager. When I asked in the morning through a different receptionist to move to a lower floor due to the dangerous balcony, I was told to come back after breakfast to speak to the manager. However, when I returned, the manager was still unavailable, and I was told no alternative rooms were available – without any indication that they would try to accommodate us when one became free. The lack of concern or willingness to assist was deeply disappointing.
In addition, the overall quality of the hotel itself was well below expectations. At breakfast, for example, the fruit on offer was artificial, which was misleading and unacceptable in a 3+ star rated hotel. The atmosphere was not very welcoming to say the least.
Thankfully, when the Jet2 representative, Beste, arrived later that day, she was appalled by the lack of action and understanding we had experienced. After a lengthy discussion we decided to move out to a nearby Hotel. She arranged one a few minutes walk away to the Golden Rock Hotel, which was rated 4 stars but was significantly superior in every way – including safety standards. Although we had to pay an extra £600 for the upgrade, it was a necessary decision to salvage our holiday. For Beste, who even accompanied us during the move, found her the most helpful of Jet2 reps we ever came across which we will always be very grateful."
