"Overall had a great holiday (via jet2) at Aluna.
Close to the airport which was great for us with the kids and a prolonged flight. Did hear and see planes throughout the stay but nothing drastic and it provided some entertainment for the kids.
As a family we had a great trip, stayed at the hotel all day nearly everyday and ate there most of the time.
My husband and I have agreed it was more of a family note than a couples hotel in our opinion- but over all we rate the experience a 8/10!
We stayed as a family- 2x adults and 3x children (15, 6, 4).
Stayed in Room 4413- suite with sea view.
Room set up for family of 3- the usual beds in the master room, in lounge area- 2x sofa type beds and 1x bed wheeled in.
Positives-
- Nice arrival- supported to find the room and helped with the bags. Room well presented on arrival- clean and tidy.
- Safe in room in the wardrobe which was easy to use.
- Large space in family area (would be even bigger without 3rd bed).
- Large master bedroom with large wardrobes.
- Large bathroom with walk in shower, quick filling toilet (essential as a family of 5!), large sink area and handy storage bench.
- Hotel do stick to the open and close hours of pools- the pool have some net around them over night but the upper bar area and the lower pools had the steps blocked off by cones.
- Plenty of sun beds - didn’t struggle with getting a sun bed, often went down around 10:30. A lot had been reserved but enough left for us as well as parasols
- Bar options were great- 2x bars in the day by the pools with plenty of options. The App is handy but I had to ask for help with determining what’s on all inclusive and not.
- Food- standard selection of food options for breakfast/ lunch and dinner. Wouldn’t say it was amazing- but wouldn’t say it was bad either. We did book for the ocean restaurant which is on the all inclusive but it needs booking for a slower and less busy meal time. Easy to book on the app.
- Pool options were great- we didn’t use the one pool at all. We stuck with the splash area which was good fun for the younger children and used the back pool with the shallow kids pool mainly. Kids didn’t get tired of the pools.
- We all enjoyed the entertainment- we did eye roll at the idea but actually it was brilliant for all ages. We had flamenco dancers, a magician, Halloween party (they went to town!) with a silent disco, Acrobatics and the last night we saw some singers and people had a good dance.
- Bar staff were friendly in the day and helpful! Night staff also lovely but clearly fed up of the same complaints about the token/ glass return
- Token and glass set up- I actually think was a great idea. Saves glasses/ cups being left around and looking messy. Easy and simple set up when you don’t forget!
- Reception was helpful when asked questions about various things.
- Location- now I thought it was the middle of nowhere but actually it’s just away from the typical busy tourist type set up. 2x supermarkets close by, restaurants, Irish pub all in within 2 mins of getting out the hotel. You can walk to the bar at the end of the marina also which is nice.
- Kids loved the arcade- but obviously that isn’t free. They do have a machine that changes notes to coins.
- The place itself felt clean and maintained well. Looked fashionable and well decorated overall. Care taken cleaning the outside around the pools etc and by the bars.
- Snack set up was great by the pools.
- Kids club was great for my younger children, they asked to go daily. Staff were great and had endless energy- thanks Lena and Eunice! They had Halloween themed activities which the kids loved!
- Kids disco was the same usual stuff but kids enjoyed it!
- Laundry service was handy- costly in my opinion but system worked well!
- Coffee machine coffee was delightful and they had decaf options.
Negatives/ disappointing-
- On arrival we finally got into the room around 11pm. Once we had moved bags around and arranged room the all inclusive bar had stopped! We had to purchase our first drinks- I personally feel you should be allowed 1x drink per person on a late arrival at least or water in the room for these later arrivals
- Bathroom light switch was hangng out the wall- easily sorted the next day, but this shouldn’t have been the case to start with. Surely when the room is being stocked with towels and cleaned it is reviewed everywhere.
- Broken pedal bin in the bathroom
- Bathroom door was a nightmare to lock- stopped kids locking themselves in but sometimes I don’t want them walking in while I’m having 5 mins peace having a shower.
- Shower dripped endlessly! Ended up with a towel on the floor and turning the one shower head upside down or putting it on the floor.
- The floor in the room was filthy! After the flight I finally took my shoes off, went to get into bed and noticed my feet were black!!!
- Food labels lacked in the restaurant. Some labels very limited with what is was- or none at all. I do not have allergies but it was little annoying not knowing what I was putting on my plate- plus I loved a cheese and I have no idea what is was to buy it at home!
- Fruit juice in the machine- vile! Don’t know how it can be considered a juice as it burnt when it went down. Ended up buying squash from the shop over the road.
- The temperature in the dining room didn’t add to the dining experience. Often sat there fanning myself because it was sticky and hot. Yes it’s a hot place- but usually these places will have a fan on the ceiling to help air the room. We found the far end to be the most cool but still sat sweating.
- The splash pad area was great when it was on- it appeared to randomly go off. I didn’t confirm if it was planned, we just moved from that area.
- The moving of the furniture outside in the morning was incredibly loud- I’m all for a clean environment but at 7:30am I wasn’t expecting it most mornings. I can tolerate the suitcases being moved as people come and go, voices etc but maybe tables with wheels are needed and encouragement to lift the chairs.
I would like to see-
- a kids park- they have high ropes but it wasn’t available all day everyday. Not sure how much it’s used really. I would have liked to see a park area by the bar area somewhere as the kids would have had a safe place to play outside of an evening/ in the day.
- Heated mirrors to prevent the steam fogging them up as the bathroom was a steam room very quickly.
- Additional chairs on the balcony, we only had 2 as a family of 5- just a third chair would have been nice
- Fresh juice options at breakfast"
