"This was our fourth trip to various hotels in Tenerife this year, and countless visits over the years! It proved to be disappointing, especially after our previous visit to this hotel a few years ago. This was due to some things minor but also some serious issues. We understood that the hotel had been recently renovated, but it seems only certain areas are actually been completed?
The walk-in shower in our room was positively dangerous, being a 5 foot long extremely slippery tray with walls of glass one side and ceramic tiles the other and with no handrails at all. After expressing our concern, a paper towel was put in the tray, which was pretty useless. We noticed holes in the wall where a rail had previously been installed, but when we mentioned it to Reception, they claimed that not all showers were provided with them! We met a guest who could not travel home when planned because their relative was still in hospital after a fall in the hotel and they were waiting for insurance to arrange travel back to the UK. So we took the issue up with the TUI rep and only then did we get a handrail reinstalled. In addition, the shower leaked onto the bathroom floor, and the extractor fan did not work.
As usual, prior to travel, we had requested through TUI a high level room for privacy after a previous bad experience. Although the room we were provided was 3rd floor, it was directly opposite a large outdoor gymnasium area, on the same level, so that gym users could see directly into our balcony/room. We experienced a lot of noise from people using the equipment, banging huge ropes on the deck and clanging metal gym apparatus etc. We were quoted a fee of several hundred euros to move up to a higher floor as apparently these were “executive rooms”.
In the bedroom, we found a broken light switch and the loose electrical socket (for the kettle) fell off the wall, exposing bare wires. Despite a notice advising the hotels internal phone numbers, the telephone line was dead. We could therefore not contact other rooms or reception and always had trek down to the ground floor every time to report all the faults. Despite being told someone would check the phone, we later found out that most rooms on the lower floors did not have working phones.
The TV system for all UK channels was mainly unwatchable due to the signal continually breaking up. For long periods of the day, the Internet was very poor and intermittent, even after repeatedly having to login again. This was both in the room and the pool areas. We actually got a much better signal from the Iberostar hotel a street away, unfortunately it was only available for 24 hours for non-residents!
There were no drawers next to the bed, a power socket only on one side and no USB ports anywhere.
At this time of year, we found that due to shadows from the main building, there is no sunshine on 75% of the pool areas until just before midday, which meant there was always a 30min queue for the best sunbeds before 8:30 every morning. Being required to leave €40 deposit for pool towels saw the occasional issue with people who whose towels seem to have gone missing after they left them unattended on their sunbeds.
The all-inclusive buffet quality was acceptable but not outstanding, but, as many were heard to comment, it was not as good as people seem to remember it. Drinks were ok with very friendly staff.
Also on the positive side, the location is good, although not beach side, and the dedicated entertainment team and the evening entertainment were very good indeed!"
