Seth Port Mahon

"Seth Port Mahon is situated in a quiet part of Mahon in an elevated position with wonderful views over the harbour. It’s a 15-20 minute walk to the town centre or a short bus ride away from Mahon bus station (bus stop 50 yards from hotel). It is a fine, historic looking building with rooms which are very comfortable and modern. Our flight from Bristol was uneventful. Reception at the airport was efficient and professional, courtesy of Jet2 staff. Transfers to the hotel were by private taxi and about 15 minutes in duration. Check in was very easy, helped by the cool glass of pomada, a traditional mix of local gin and lemonade, that we were offered. The warmth of the welcome by staff on reception was a good indicator of the friendliness of all of the staff we interacted with during our stay. Worth noting that safes in the rooms have a key. You have to ask at reception for one of these on payment of a 10 euro deposit. We had booked Junior suites with Balcony and Sea View, and were we glad that we had made this choice. The views from our rooms were amazing, looking out on the main islands in the harbour and beyond. Beds were very comfortable – two singles locked together as is typical in hotels these days. The room also offered a comfortable settee, desk and chair. Built in wardrobe included the safe, refrigerator, and tea and coffee making facilities. This included a capsule coffee machine but the capsules provided looked a little past it. A nice touch was the provision of 2 miniature local gins, a bag of crisps, and a daily complimentary bottle of still water. The one downside of the room was the very limited drawer space and we felt that to a degree we were living out of our suitcases although there was plenty of hanging space and hangers. The bathroom was very modern and had a huge shower. Hot water was plentiful. We had originally planned a bed and breakfast stay but based on recent Trip Advisor reviews we had read we switched to half board and were we glad we did. Breakfast was very good with wide range of cereals, pastries cold meats, cheeses and cooked breakfast usuals. There was also a hot grill service for pancakes, eggs etc. Dinner was perfectly adequate with a range of options each night on the buffet with at least two hot grill options available. The buffet dishes were replenished often although, depending on when you took your food, it may have been warm rather than hot. You could eat in the dining room or out on the veranda overlooking the harbour. Both options proved enjoyable. Perhaps the best aspect of our stay at the hotel was the staff. They proved to be the most pleasant, efficient, warm and welcoming staff we have encountered whether it be at reception, the restaurant table, the grill, the bar or house maintenance. "We've recently returned from a 10 night break. On arrival we were assigned room 233 by Antonio on reception. The room was very comfortable with plenty of wardrobe space, a great walk in shower, nice balcony with perfect views. We stayed on a b & b basis the breakfast was excellent we also had one lunch and one evening meal. It's an easy walk into Mao centre which is interesting to explore. Patisseries, bars with Tapas. All really good and good value. The harbour offers a variety of bars and restaurants xauxa and il Porto topping the choice. Give it a go👍"
