"When it comes to Sol Barbacan, there is a lot to say.
Starting with check-in: we were welcomed warmly, however we could only acces our room after 15 although our check-in time was supposed to be at 14-so we had to wait. Our room, which overlooked the pool—was clean and well presented.
Our first major issue arose that very evening when live entertainment began at the outdoor hotel bar. Despite being on the third floor, the noise was overwhelming due to poor soundproofing of the doors. The music continued until nearly 1 a.m., making it impossible to sleep. This happened for three consecutive nights. It is difficult to understand how a hotel does not consider that some guests expect to rest at night rather than participate in late-night partying.
The following morning brought our second disappointment at breakfast. While the food selection itself was good and varied, the dining area was poorly maintained: the floors were dirty, the coffee was undrinkable, the food looked randomly thrown in plates at the buffet and not very appealing. The staff repeatedly attempted to clear plates even while guests were still eating. Additionally, the noise level created by staff was excessive and disruptive.
That evening, the loud music continued once again late into the night. After calling reception to ask how long the entertainment would last—by this point we were exhausted by the noise—we were offered a room change two days later. However, the proposed room was only four doors away on the same side of the building, directly facing the noise. Worse still, we were not informed that no further shows would take place after New Year’s Eve, meaning the room change was unnecessary.
The most serious issue of our stay occurred when we discovered that a significant amount of money was missing from a wallet that had never left the room. The wallet had been buried inside a backpack, making the situation even more concerning. We reported this to reception, who showed little surprise and told us they would review the room access logs. We never received any follow-up. At check-out, we were given no useful information at all—and would have received none had we not asked.
As a final disappointment, we experienced further disorganization from staff. We forgot a charger in the room and called reception before returning to retrieve it. Upon arrival, they showed us a charger that had already been in the room and was not ours. After several calls between staff members, we were told nothing else had been found. Twenty minutes later, we were contacted again and informed that our charger had in fact been located, apparently taken by housekeeping (and placed in lost and found?). We had to return yet again, hoping it was the correct one. Fortunately, it was.
In conclusion, based on the persistent noise issues, lack of consideration for guests, poor communication, and serious concerns regarding security, I would not recommend staying at Sol Barbican."
