This epic resort is like a miniature town in its own right. Architecturally stunning, it’s designed to mirror a traditional Canarian village, and comes complete with Colonial flourishes, terracotta and white facades, and a cobbled central square. The attention to detail throughout is staggering, right down to the entranceway, which is modelled on one of Gran Canaria’s oldest churches. Families will appreciate the hotel’s five swimming pools, one of which is saltwater, and another designed like a lazy river, weaving through the tropical gardens that cloak the resort. Little ones have their very own pool, and there are activities like volleyball, tennis and darts on offer if you fancy a break from chilling out. The focus here is largely on relaxation, though, and the spa and wellness centre is really popular. Here, you can float in a gravity pool, shower in soothing oils, and book in for facials and massages. There’s a good variety of dining options at the Lopesan Villa del Conde Resort and Thalasso, including a big buffet eatery serving round-the-world dishes, and an atmospheric Italian a la carte restaurant. Close to the poolside, you’ll find a grill and salad bar with a nice al fresco seating area. As for watering holes? There’s a lobby bar and a traditional pub, and the plaza area is the setting for electric night-time entertainment.
