"Stayed at the Se Boutique with my family for a week in October 2025, booked through Tui.
It is a small hotel located perfectly in the centre of Funchal with easy access to the best the city has to offer. You need to be prepared to walk to get to it... the immediate roads around the hotel are narrow and predominantly pedestrianised. Drop offs/pick ups by the transfers/taxis we used was just around the corner... 2 min walk at most. Just around the corner from the Se Cathedral, the hotel is surrounded by bars, restaurants and shops, with a short 5 minute walk to the sea front. Fur us, the location was pretty much ideal.
The decor in the reception/public areas is quirky and stylish. This was carried through to the breakfast dining area and rooftop bar (which is well worth a visit, with or without the welcome drink vouchers we received on check in!).
The staff at the hotel were amazing. Always welcoming with a smile, I found them to be knowledgeable and helpful across the range of questions and queries we had during our stay. A credit to the hotel.
We had a 'deluxe' room on the 3rd floor, with a view over the street. The facilities in the room were excellent - aside from the standard items you would expect - there was a Nespresso machine which was stocked daily, a microwave, sink, and fridge. Noise levels were OK... not so much from the street but the AC sounded like it was on it's last legs (we had to turn off during the night which might be a problem in the summer), and you could pick up the odd noise from other rooms (doors, toilets etc.).
We had 3 people in the room - a large double (2 singles pushed together) with the other a sofa bed. With the sofa bed in use, there wasn't much space to move around the room - it was quite a tight configuration. Wardrobe/storage was just about OK. There was a safe but it didn't have a lock... we chanced leaving our valuables inside on the basis that the hotel felt very safe but you might not be comfortable with that.
The decor of the room was a bit dated, which felt odd in comparison to the rest of the hotel. The bathroom particularly needs some attention.
Room service did an amazing job everyday. We always came back to a spotless room, and the rest of the hotel was equally sparkling.
Breakfast was OK, if a bit limited in terms of choice. All the basics were covered - a selection of cereals, cooked meats, pastries, fruit and cakes. A small number of cooked items were provided. There was a coffee machine but (accepting I'm a bit of a coffee snob) it wasn't particularly nice.
On balance though I'd definitely recommend the Se Boutique for your accommodation in Funchal. A perfect location, amazing staff and great facilities more than make up for the areas outlined above."
