Eco-friendly oasis on the Moroccan coast
Tucked away among tropical gardens at the foot of the Atlas Mountains, around 30 kilometres up the coast from Agadir, lies this eco-friendly retreat which feels like an idyllic world of its own. Environmental sustainability is front and centre here, from prioritising locally sourced food and furniture to the recycled wastewater irrigation system that keeps the gardens healthy.
It’s a real haven for surfers, with several of the world’s finest surfing hot spots just a few minutes down the road, ranging from beginner-friendly breaks to monstrous barrels that will challenge even the most experienced surfers. The Surf House is the on-site hub for all water-based activities (including surfing, stand-up paddle boarding and kayaking), offering top quality equipment to hire and providing a chilled-out base to unwind and reminisce over a drink or two after a day riding waves. There’s also a kids club, a children’s pool and a playground, making this a great spot for families as well as friends and couples.
Yoga is a big thing here, too, with expert instructors leading classes for all ability levels. Whether you’re a total novice or a regular, there are few more spectacular places to practice yoga than this, while the Atlantic Ocean provides the perfect view and soundtrack.
It’s not all about adrenaline-pumping water sports and testing your flexibility, though. For some well-earned down time, take it easy by the outdoor pool, unwind in the Zen Garden or head over to the eco spa for a soothing session in the hammam, or a reinvigorating massage or skin treatment using the finest natural products.
If that’s not enough to get the cogs of your imagination whirring, the culinary scene almost certainly will. Across the four on-site dining venues, there’s a strong emphasis on celebrating quality organic produce from the region, from fresh fish caught nearby to fruit and vegetables from local farms. There’s no better way to start the day than by tucking into a delicious buffet breakfast by the pool at L’Ocean, where you’ll be able to choose between omelettes, crepes, cereals, yogurts, fruits, cheeses, and more. Later on, take your pick from authentic Moroccan cuisine at Le 27, Mediterranean-themed lunches at Le Lounge, and fresh seafood served on a lantern-lit terrace by the beach at Le Chiringuito.
It doesn’t get much cosier than snuggling up to watch a film at the open air theatre or huddling around a crackling fire while sharing stories and sipping cocktails as the sun goes down.
