"Suffering With Post‑Holiday Blues After an Incredible Stay at Boutique Hotel Ruzmarin
We’ve just returned from 7 nights at Boutique Hotel Ruzmarin, and I genuinely cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. It was our first time in Montenegro, and we’ve absolutely fallen in love with the country and its people.
The hotel itself is small but perfect—completely chilled, relaxed, and surrounded by the most beautiful scenery. Nestled in the hills, with mountains and greenery all around, it feels soothing and tranquil. There’s no traffic noise, no chaos—just pure peace. It’s a truly relaxing experience.
From the moment we arrived, the staff made the hotel feel like home. Everyone was so friendly, helpful, and wonderfully polite. Ivica, the manager, stood out in the best possible way. He shared so much about the local culture, food, wine, and places to explore, and he did it with such genuine warmth that we felt instantly connected. By the time we left, it felt like we were saying goodbye to a friend.
And Luka—what a star. Kind, amiable and a real asset to the hotel. His parents should be proud!
The food is easily the best we have ever eaten in a hotel abroad, and we’ve travelled all over Europe. There is absolutely no need to go into Budva to eat; no restauran7t could compare. Fresh fish is delivered daily from the port, and the menu changes depending on the catch. The Balkan stew was delicious—I could happily eat it every day. Prices are very reasonable, cheaper than the UK, and the salads at lunch were fantastic. My favourite was the beetroot, honey, mozzarella, and walnut salad. The beetroot risotto with gorgonzola sauce still has my mouth watering. They also have a great range of wine and beer, and the Montenegrin red wine is outstanding. The coffee is excellent too, which is always important to us.
The spa is lovely, with a huge jacuzzi, steam room, and sauna. Having robes in the room was a great touch.
The hotel isn’t near shops or bars, so it’s about a 50‑minute walk to Budva Old Town or €10 in a taxi. We walked in a few times and then took a taxi back. The hotel will tell you which taxi firms to use—don’t hail one on the street, as they will overcharge.
Jaz Beach is €5 in a taxi and absolutely stunning. It’s shale rather than sand, but still beautiful, with a bar and supermarket nearby. Two sun loungers and an umbrella are only €10 total.
We fully intend to return—something we never do. Next time, we’ll hire a car for the full week so we can explore more of beautiful Montenegro and follow more of Ivica’s recommendations."
