"My family and I took a trip to Malta, a destination we had dreamed of. We booked three rooms for four nights at the Marriott Sliema location because we have stayed at Marriotts all over the world and had wonderful experiences. I have long been a member. During the first night, we were all awakened around 4 am by thudding noises, which made it impossible to sleep. It was not the construction next door, which was bothersome but manageable. We thought it was bad luck and things would improve. The next night, same thing: all three of us in different rooms on the same floor were woken around 4am to thudding and dragging sounds. This noise went on for hours, and in one of our rooms, all day. When we complained to management, we were told that they could put two of us in different rooms, but the rooms would be smaller, and one would not have a balcony—so essentially a downgrade. No compensation was offered or an understanding of the inconvenience (they did end up paying for our Uber to the airport, which was nice). They wanted us to pack up and store our luggage downstairs during the day since they needed all the rooms. They called back soon after and said they had one available, so one of us was moved. I told them that I did not want to move to a smaller room, and after that, nothing happened. That evening, when returning to the hotel, I asked for an additional blanket, and the front office lady acted surprised that I hadn't changed rooms. I told her no one contacted me, and then she said she tried to call the room, but I didn't answer (why would she have thought I moved rooms if she supposedly called and didn't speak to me?). I don't know if she expected me to wait in my room all day on my vacation, waiting for a call she never informed me I would get. So, one of us ended up having two restful nights in a smaller room, and my son and I had little sleep. If you combine our nights and rooms, it is 12 nights of sleep between us, and only 2 were good for one person. On the last day we spoke to them, and they said they would compensate us for two nights' stay three times, and it never happened. We reached out by email, and there was no response. Finally, when asked for feedback on my stay from Marriott, I complained, and the front office manager reached out to me, apologizing. She asked me if I had received the partial refund, and I told her I had not. She said if I hadn't, she would let the finance department know. This was a week ago, and I have sent follow-up emails and have heard nothing back. I cannot believe how deceptive they are being and that they are ignoring me and not following through. They didn't have to say anything, but since they did offer, they should have followed through for our inconvenience. I don't think I can ever stay at Marriott's again after this experience that had a significant impact on our dream vacation. It is challenging to go 4 nights with poor sleep. Would not recommend."
