"Berjaya Akureyri Hotel – Honest Review We stayed at the Berjaya Akureyri Hotel, and overall, it was very 6-7. The rooms were pretty basic, and the bathroom setup wasn’t ideal — the toilet was uncomfortably close to the bed. Breakfast was just okay — nothing special. It would’ve been much better if they offered fresh eggs or made-to-order options, but as our tour guide said, “this is what you get.” One nice feature was their northern lights wake-up service. They’ll call your room if the lights are visible, and one night they actually were, which was a great experience. Unfortunately, our overall impression took a hit when the room attendant forgot to make up our room on the second day. That kind of service slip left a bad taste and overshadowed the positives."

"Wonderful hotel in beautiful Akureyri! Restaurants and shops within walking distance. A great pool facility (not part of hotel) across the street if you are traveling with children. Rooms were comfortable and clean. Our family room was perfect for the 4 of us. Staff very kind and helpful prior and during our visit. Ample parking available."

"My companion and I had a terrible experience at this Berjaya Akureri hotel. There are 99 rooms at this hotel (Based on their website) and during the two nights we stayed, the hotel was hosting the Donald Duck Children’s Ski competition team - a big event for skiers ages 6-15 in Iceland. This is wonderful for the kids, not so wonderful for the hotel. I have a photo of the attendees using the patio for a group pic, and I counted at least 130 kids. I have to believe of the 99 rooms, this group took the overwhelming majority. There were so many unsupervised kids running around up and down the hallways, riding the elevators for fun, leaving games, cards and puzzles all over the floors in the lobby, as well as using the charcoal in the outdoor fire pit area to draw all over patio. The hotel allowed the lobby to be used for a common area for the kids (all seats and tables numbered with cards to keep track of groups). This was also the lobby lounge so there was nowhere to sit if you weren’t part of the event, nor could you get a drink and relax, as the kids were the sole purpose of the hotel. I sat down on a sofa to wait for my friend (apparently spot #8) and was promptly pushed out. Forget even the thought of breakfast in the hotel restaurant. The fire pit patio (which looks lovely on the hotel website) no chance to use. The kids were all out there running around and making a mess of it with the charcoals. Honestly, this was like staying in a dormitory. My room was stuffy, but I couldn’t open my windows for all the noise on the patio into the late evening. I don’t blame the kids or parents. Kids will be kids, and no doubt this competition is a big deal for them. My issue is with the hotel. They simply should have closed it to any other reservations during this time. This hotel cost me nearly $600 USD for 2 nights for a hotel whose amenities and restaurant we could not use, nor have a relaxing stay. The front desk didn’t care about what we thought too much. Just gave us a laminated piece of paper with a website address to send in feedback. They just shrugged like “well, sorry.”"
