"We recently enjoyed a fantastic holiday on the beautiful island of Madeira, staying at the Pestana Carlton Madeira. From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by the high level of service. We received a very professional welcome, and the staff went above and beyond by allowing us to check into our accommodation earlier than expected, which we truly appreciated. The hotel itself is stunning, but we specifically chose to stay in one of their apartments. It was incredibly spacious and featured two balconies situated right near the ocean. Waking up to such a magnificent view every morning made our trip unforgettable. Every staff member we encountered was friendly and highly skilled, ensuring our stay was seamless and relaxing. Whether you are looking for comfort, professionalism, or a prime location by the sea, this hotel is an excellent choice. We highly recommend it!"

"We have visited Madeira many times and chose this hotel due to its central location. We stayed for 4 nights over New Year and do have to say the service was exceptional and we will definitely stay again on future visits. The staff were all exceptional, very friendly and efficient. Breakfast had a large selection of continental items and a small amount of hot items but they did cook omlette's to order. We did not partake in the New Years Eve function but spent the evening in the Taverna Bar before watching the fireworks from the 5th floor roof terrace which was an excellent vantage point. A DJ in the bar area afterwards was a nice surprise so we danced until the early hours. We had a city view room which overlooked the taxi rank at the front of the hotel but we were not disturbed by noise. There is a good selection of snacks served in the pool bar and also in the pub for those who do not require a full meal in the restaurant. If I was being picky I would say the bathrooms are in need of a little tlc and would have preferred a walk in shower as opposed to a shower over the bath. I was also surprised a 5* hotel does not supply at least one bottle of still water in the room. As we were only there 4 nights we didnt get chance to try out the spa but that will be on the list for our next visit. I would recommend this hotel for the location and staff alone and cannot wait to return."

"I’m a little perplexed at some of the reviews for this hotel. We have stopped at numerous hotels in Madeira and countless around the world. It’s a running family joke that I have high expectations and I have checked myself out early from quite a few hotels because they have not met my expectations… Positives- Location- great spot to walk into the centre or to the newer area bars and restaurants. It is hilly so maybe not good for less mobile and taxi would be needed. Atmosphere- great warm welcome, checking was quick and efficient helping to sooth our disgruntled mood after a delayed flight and long airport wait. Staff were all so friendly. The management planned so many little surprises during our visit from a special delivery for our 35th wedding anniversary, a great market night Carol Concert with drinks and canapés and a truly festive Christmas Eve breakfast flash mob dance from the staff. Most days there was something that surprised us and made us smile. Rooms- very clean, spacious, comfortable bed, good storage, lighting and available plug sockets. I personally liked the toiletries , they had a lovely fragrance and were the same brand as we have had at the Savoy Palace. We had a city view room, which we were more than happy with especially when we could see the city lit up at night. Yes the arched door was a little quirky, and the finish my not be as modern as other hotels such as the Savoy Palace, but we did not pay Savoy prices… The Pestana Carlton, in our opinion offered great value for money. Breakfast was superb, tasty and one of the highlights of the day- sat on the terrace looking out to sea and Reid’s Palace. There was a huge choice of cooked items that were constantly replenished. Pastries, breads, cereal a huge selection of fresh fruits and yoghurts. Coffee was also good from a help yourself bean to cup machine or waiter delivered filtered. The points above are why we are perplexed at some of the reviews, maybe the individuals who claim it is not five star or are not satisfied May need to put their hands in their pockets and pay a more bespoke price for a more bespoke hotel. We were very pleased with our stay and would (will) return to the Pestana Carlton in a heart beat. We stayed for Christmas week and felt the team made the week very special in comparison to the same week at other hotels in previous years. Negatives/could be better if- Maybe a bit more greenery in the sea level pool. A walk-in shower would be preferable to over the bath shower. Happy hour to include cocktails. Service charge counteracts the Pestana discount."
