Porto is a bewitching Portuguese city that’s brilliant all year round, but visit between May and September for the warmest, driest weather. The cool river breeze and nearby beaches provide relief from the heat in the hottest months. This is also when the city is at its liveliest, with people mingling outside the bars and restaurants long after dark.

Avoid the crowds

Come to Porto in May, June or September to sidestep the crowds of high summer. The weather is still really lovely – expect warm temperatures and rainfall is rare. Prices are lower, restaurants have more readily available tables, and exploring on foot is a lot easier than in the baking heat of July and August.
