easyJet is partnering with i6 Group to introduce eHandshake, a digital platform that will modernise aircraft refuelling processes across its network
The new system allows pilots to order and confirm fuel digitally, replacing a process that has traditionally relied on paperwork and manual data entry
By giving pilots more accurate fuel information the technology can help make flights more efficient, cutting unnecessary cost and fuel burn
The technology will create a complete digital record of fuel planning, ordering, delivery and acceptance - helping improve data accuracy and invoice verification
By helping reduce unnecessary fuel uplift, the platform has the potential to reduce fuel burn whilst improving operational performance – estimated to save around 10,000 tonnes of CO2 per year
easyJet is today announcing a new partnership with aviation technology provider i6 Group to deploy its eHandshake digital refuelling platform across the airline's network, modernising the way fuel is ordered, delivered and verified.
Specifically, easyJet will integrate i6 Group's eHandshake technology into its existing ETechlog pilot platform, enabling easyJet pilots to order and confirm fuel digitally, giving them more accurate information to reduce fuel consumption and cut emissions – potentially leading to as many as 10,000 tonnes of Co2 saved per year.
The initiative forms part of easyJet's ongoing focus on improving data quality, reducing unnecessary fuel uplift and driving greater operational efficiency across its network. By replacing paper-based processes with a single digital fuel workflow, the platform connects pilots, fuel suppliers and operational teams in real time, streamlining communication and improving the accuracy of fuel ordering and delivery. The move will also save an estimated 600,00 sheets of paper each year in the process.
The technology will also support greater visibility and control over fuel uplift across the operation, helping ensure aircraft receive the necessary amount of fuel required, leading to reductions both in cost and emissions by avoiding unnecessary aircraft weight and the additional fuel burn that comes with carrying it.
The platform will be integrated into easyJet's pilot technology systems and introduced through a phased rollout – with initial deployment covering approximately half of the airline's network and expected to expand to around 90% of destinations over the next three years.
Speaking about the partnership, Adam Baker, Head of Fuel Performance at easyJet, said:
"At easyJet we are continually looking for opportunities toimprove our operations through technology and innovation. Introducing eHandshake with i6 Group will provide a more connected and efficient fuel management process, improving data quality, giving us greater visibility across fuel operations and enabling reduced fuel consumption.
“As we continue to modernise our operations, initiatives like this demonstrate how innovation and collaboration across the industry can incrementally help reduce aviation’s environmental impact both in the air and on the ground.”
Alex Mattos, CEO & Co-founder, at i6 Group said:
“We’re proud to partner with easyJet to enable a smoother, more connected refuelling process across its network. By integrating eHandshake into the technology pilots already use, fuel information can be shared and verified digitally between pilots, fuel providers and operational teams.
“This will improve communication and data accuracy, reduce unnecessary fuel uplift, and help easyJet deliver greater operational efficiency while lowering costs and emissions.”
Operational efficiency improvements like digital fuelling are a key part of easyJet’s net zero roadmap. The airline remains committed to decarbonising its fleet and remains on track to meet its ambitious target of a 35% reduction in carbon emissions intensity by 2035.
Pilot’s eye view into how the platform works:
The platform creates a complete digital audit trail of each refuelling event, recording fuel planned, fuel requested, fuel delivered and fuel accepted. But what does this look like for pilots?
Under the new digital process, pilots will submit fuel requests electronically, allowing refuelling providers to receive accurate information before arriving at the aircraft, which could help reduce delays.
Fuel deliveries will be recorded digitally and confirmed by pilots through the system, creating a complete record of every stage of the refuelling process.
The data will then be stored centrally, providing greater transparency and enabling detailed analysis and verification where required.
By providing this single source of verified data, the system will improve fuel data accuracy, strengthen invoice verification and help reduce operational inefficiencies associated with manual processes.

About easyJet
easyJet is one of Europe’s largest airlines offering a unique and winning combination of the best route network connecting Europe's primary airports with great value fares and friendly service. easyJet flies on more of Europe’s most popular routes than any other airline and carried more than 100 million passengers in 2024. The airline has over 340 aircraft flying on over 1,000 routes to more than 160 airports across 35 countries. Over 300 million Europeans live within one hour's drive of an easyJet airport.
easyJet aims to be a good corporate citizen, employing people on local contracts in nine countries across Europe in full compliance with national laws and recognising their trade unions. The airline supports several local charities and has a corporate partnership with UNICEF which has raised over £17m for the most vulnerable children since it was established in 2012.
In 2022, easyJet published its roadmap to net zero by 2050. The roadmap, which also features a combination of fleet renewal, operational efficiencies, airspace modernisation, Sustainable Aviation Fuel and carbon removal technology, has set an ambitious interim carbon emissions intensity reduction target of 35% by 2035, validated by the Science-based targets initiative (SBTi). The airline’s ultimate aim is to fully transition its fleet to zero carbon emission technology, which it will achieve through a number of strategic partnerships including with Airbus, Rolls-Royce and GKN Aerospace Solutions. Since 2000, the airline has successfully reduced its carbon emissions per passenger, per kilometre by one-third.
Innovation is in easyJet’s DNA – since launching nearly 30 years ago, easyJet changed the way people fly to the present day where the airline leads the industry in digital and operational innovations to make travel more easy and affordable for its passengers. In 2023 easyJet was named by TIME as one of the World’s Best Companies and a Leader in Diversity 2024 by The Financial Times.
