You know the one with winding country lanes, patchwork cornfields and rolling hills – and that’s just in England. Venture into Scotland and you have the Highlands to discover, or Harry Potter country if you’re in the know. And while lively cities, ancient university towns and patchwork countryside are all very appealing, no UK travel guide would be complete without mentioning the jewel in the UK’s crown, its capital London. This cultural heart of Europe, leading financial powerhouse and number one party destination is a sprawling metropolis of history, diversity and never-ending tourist treats. Think endless collections of world class museums and art galleries, the world’s leading theatre district, palaces and parks galore, and a nightlife that is unrivalled by any other city in the world and you don’t even come close to what London has on offer. The UK’s weather can be pretty changeable. The Gulf Stream stops things from getting extreme in either summer or winter, so temperatures rarely drop too low or rise too high. Summers are short but pleasant, especially in the south where temperatures in August can peak at around 30 degrees. Further north and in Scotland, expect temperatures to be a few degrees cooler throughout the year. Winters can be on the chilly side, although rarely freezing. With so much to see in this country there is no best time to go, but if you do decide to pay a visit bring a brolly just in case.
