Best time to visit
June, July and August see Sofia in peak summer-time mode with hot, generally dry weather and a lively atmosphere. This is when the majority of travellers choose to fly to Sofia, but the city also sees a surge between December and February as winter sports enthusiasts stop in to explore the city on their way to Bulgaria's ski resorts.
Avoid the crowds
Fly into Sofia between April and May or September and October for a less crowded experience and the most competitive travel rates. During late spring and early autumn, the weather is warm and pleasant, perfect for hiking Vitosha Mountain (just 30-minutes from Sofia centre) and exploring landmarks such as the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral without the usual summertime hoards.
