Tameslohte Holidays

Marrakech’s calmer, countryside neighbour

Tameslohte – pronounced Tah-mesh-looht – is where you can escape the Marrakech buzz without losing the Moroccan magic. About 30 minutes from the city, it swaps souk chaos for big skies, olive groves, and Atlas Mountain backdrops. Think peaceful lanes, dusty tracks and the odd donkey plodding past your swimming pool. Most stays here are in riads, villas or small resorts scattered around the countryside, so it feels perfectly private. Days tend to unfold slowly: breakfast in the garden, a dip in the pool, then maybe a hammam session or massage while the sun does its thing.

If you fancy an adventure, you’ll be well placed to get out and about. Many lodges can arrange adrenaline-fuelled activities, or opt for calmer, more tranquil trips into the Agafay “stone desert” for sunset. You can also nip into Marrakech for a hit of medina energy, then retreat back to birdsong and starlight. Food’s a big tick. You can expect home-style Moroccan cooking, tagines bubbling away, fresh salads, fluffy bread straight from the oven and endless pours of proper mint tea.

Some places even offer cooking classes, so you can learn your way around preserved lemons and ras el hanout before eating the results on a shady terrace. If you want to experience Morocco with more calm, more sky and far fewer car horns, Tameslohte is the reset button you’ll be very glad you pressed. Come for the peace, the pools and the pink sunsets; leave wondering why you never previously stayed beyond the city.
