Holiday Inn Birmingham City Centre

"I must admit I don't think I have stayed in a Holiday Inn before and I am in my early 60s I have stayed in a Holiday inn express. I compared wrongly my memories years ago of Holiday in Leicester that I used to call in years ago and wow have standards slipped. This hotel covered the basics but at £90 a room(Double)my expectancy levels went really satisfied.The hotel was in dire need,of a refurb either Carpets very worn on corridors. Our Double Room was very small,there wasn't even room gor me get out my side of the bed,had to slide down bottom of bed to get out. No bottles of water in Room.Got to say walk in shower and toiletries were spot on.Breakfast was chaos,like eating in a football ground concourse.Breakfasts £15 on a 2 for 1 was cheap though.In Summary,this hotel covered my family on its pyramid of needs,I.e we had a clean bed and somewhere to sleep, very near our night out in Brum. The Bar was awful.With stock choices like a bar that was about to go bankrupt. Holiday in need to decide where they are competing,In the cheap as chips market or above my benchmark of say Premier Inns, as its not evident."

"Check in was smooth Good location Staff are all helpful and lovely - especially Lucy, she went out of her way to ensure it was a great stay. Breakfast 10/10 - love a fresh made omelette! Will definitely return, as I have many times"

"As both a Platinum and Ambassador member of IHG I always trying to be loyal to the brand. I was spending one night in Birmingham with a family member and the location of the hotel seemed ideal and I was expecting a usual standard with a Holiday Inn. I checked in and my status was not acknowledged nor was I welcomes as a valued member. I asked about my guaranteed upgrade and was told that I wouldn't be getting one and the room was ready for me to check in. I did ask again as I have a guaranteed upgrade but the person on the check in desk was unhelpful. When we returned to check in I asked again about the upgrade and had to insist on them honouring my membership. This was eventually sorted. I also didn't get offered my welcome amenity and had to ask for this too. We went to our room which was a junior suite - room 14. The carpet had a huge stain next to the bed and the room was stiflingly hot so I adjusted the air conditioning. This made no difference so they ended up providing us with a fan. There was a king bed and a bed sofa, which was made up for the second person. Housekeeping called twice trying to give us extra coat hangers and towels - hopefully they made it to the right room. The had a drink in the bar and I must say that the gentlemen serving was lovely - helpful and chatty. Breakfast was adequate. I would not book here again."
