"We stayed at the Alexandre Grand Teguise Playa from 11th to 22nd December in room 620. When we checked in we were surprised to not be given a map or a QR code that would give us a map to the hotel as it is quite a large complex, this could be an improvement for the future for guests to find there way around the complex. We overall, found the hotel to be clean, tidy, and very well maintained. The public areas, rooms, and grounds were clearly well looked after, which made for a pleasant and comfortable stay. The main lobby area of the hotel is impressive and does look great when you walk in the front doors. Our room was spacious for the two of us with a large balcony looking out over the sea. The beds were comfy and the bathroom was large with a large shower and powerful showerhead.
Unfortunately, the food was the most disappointing aspect of our visit. Meals were often not hot or fresh, and the choice was fairly limited at times. Some dishes lacked flavour, with seasoning mainly consisting of salt and garlic, and several items were quite oily. Food was not always replenished quickly enough when trays were empty, which meant waiting or missing out on certain options.
During busy periods at lunch and dinner, we also had to wait for tables to be cleared and reset by the waiting staff.
On our first lunch at the hotel we decided to sit outside, only to be met with a waiter who abruptly stated that we were not able to sit in the area to the right of the BBQ area as it was wet (no signs or anything blocking the area off to state otherwise) and snatched the cutlery out of my husband’s hand that he had picked up for us.
We then decided to sit inside as the other outside seating area was full, for my husband to them have the same waiter approach him three times to state we could sit outside if we wanted. After the third time, where the waiter poked my partner he politely told the waiter he was aware and to leave him alone and not to touch him. My husband after this was rightly disgruntled at having the knife and fork snatched from him and being poked by said waiter.
We found the staff in the hotel to be generally polite but a lot of them looked unhappy most of the time and there wasn't much service with a smile. Not the usual demeanour we have had from hotel staff in Lanzarote on our previous holidays unfortunately.
We were also disappointed that the outdoor BBQ area was not used at all during our stay. This was a real shame, as it looked like a great feature and something we would have enjoyed trying.
We found sunbeds were plenty, even when we got around the pool at 11am we found somewhere. I did find that the sunbeds weren't the comfiest. The heated pool was lovely to be able to take a dip. The pool bar was tucked away in a corner of the pool area so depending on where you got a sunbed was dependent on how far the walk would be to get a drink, they did have self service soft drinks and hot drinks but any alcohol was served at the bar. Sometimes a queue did gather for people waiting at the bar.
The inside bar looked impressive and was always full of an evening, we did observe a few bits of the evening entertainment but didn't hang around as it wasn't too our taste, usual entertainment of magician, singer, bingo, quiz etc.
As we had paid extra for one of the superior rooms so got an evening meal in the A La Carte restaurant but unfortunately due to the menu containing mostly seafood we gave this a miss so unable to comment on this.
We did find ourselves deciding to go out for breakfast and evening meals at times as we were not feeling enthused about the restaurant food. We have much nicer food outside of the hotel that in the hotel unfortunately.
Pros:
Very clean and well-maintained hotel throughout
Comfortable rooms and tidy communal areas
Lovely location with sea views and easy access to the seafront
Generally pleasant and relaxed atmosphere
Well-kept grounds and pool areas
Large room with large balcony
Cons:
Food often not hot or fresh
Limited choice at times and lack of flavour in some dishes
Some food overly oily
Slow replenishment of food when items ran out
Waiting for tables to be cleared at busy lunch and dinner times
Outdoor BBQ area not used during our stay
Some hotel staff seemed unhappy
Overall, while the hotel itself is attractive and well cared for, improvements to the food quality, variety, and dining organisation would greatly enhance the overall experience. I also wonder whether the hotel needs to also improve is morale around its staff members as many seem very unhappy, disinterested and disengaged.
Personally myself and my husband agreed that we wouldn’t make a repeat trip back to this hotel again, it’s unfortunate to say but we have had better stays at hotels which cost us a lot less."
