"We arrived at the hotel with high expectations. We have previously stayed at Paradisus by Meliá Gran Canaria, where everything was absolutely perfect. After just the first day, we unfortunately had to conclude that Paradisus Fuerteventura does not come anywhere near the standard of its Gran Canaria counterpart. The hotel is not bad, but we personally would not return. We do not feel it is a five‑star hotel; rather, something closer to 3.5 stars feels more accurate. We made a list of pros and cons, and once both were completed, we realized we were disappointed.
Pros
+ The drinks are good
+ The beds are excellent
+ The food is fairly good, though at times a bit bland. On one occasion, our club sandwich contained partially raw chicken
+ There was entertainment every evening at the Vibra Bar (live band, duo, etc.)
Cons
- Service: Service was rarely delivered with a smile, was often quite slow, and the staff did not seem particularly service‑oriented. For example, at the Ginger lobby bar, the staff preferred clearing tables, loading the dishwasher, and doing pretty much everything else instead of serving the customers waiting in line. Queuing in general was quite common, possibly due to understaffing
- Language skills: If you speak Spanish, there is no issue. However, apart from one staff member, English skills were almost non‑existent. You can manage, but at times it is quite challenging
- Renovation quality: The renovation appears to have been done somewhat carelessly. Before arriving, we laughed at similar reviews, but sadly found them to be accurate
- Cleanliness: The overall impression felt slightly cheap and untidy, especially when compared to Paradisus Gran Canaria. Many areas felt worn and do not meet five‑star standards
- Pool area: There is only one restroom, located in the main building. From the outermost sunbeds, it is quite a long walk. Additionally, the Wi‑Fi does not reach areas such as the adults‑only pool
We fully understand that travelers who have not experienced other five‑star Meliá hotels will likely find this hotel very good, and that is not an incorrect opinion. In our review, we compared our experience to five‑star hotels in various countries, and unfortunately, this does not meet five‑star standards by any country’s definition. It was also somewhat strange that most fellow guests did not seem to be in a particularly good mood. It is hard to say why there was so little laughter or smiling during the week. This is, of course, highly subjective and likely unrelated to the hotel itself.
During our stay, it rained on a few days. On two evenings, the roof at the Vibra Bar leaked quite heavily. Buckets and water containers were placed all over the dance floor, and there was a significant amount of water on the floor. In addition, water leaked through the windows in the hotel corridors, running onto the walls and floors, though to a lesser extent.
Our stay was a small disappointment, as we paid a lot for the trip and expected a lot—or at least the same standard as other Meliá properties. Unfortunately, we must admit that we should have trusted the reviews we read here more before booking. This by no means implies that we would not book a Meliá hotel again. Hopefully, the hotel management can take this as constructive feedback, as the hotel certainly has potential."
