An inviting coastal gem
They say it’s the journey, not the destination that counts – and Aguadulce holidays are undoubtedly about both. This becomes clear when you’re meandering along the coastal road that connects this petite Spanish resort to its Moorish neighbour Almeria. The journey is all sheer drops, cliffside tunnels and flashes of brilliant blue sea and sky, while Aguadulce itself moves at a leisurely pace – think languorous beach days and sunset strolls along the pretty palm-tree-lined promenade.
When you’re not basking on the well-kept Blue Flag beach, hire a bicycle or car and explore the rest of this sun-drenched region. Towards Roquetas de Mar, you’ll find a water park (a bonus if you have little ones), while Almeria is full of natural wonders and architectural gems – perfect for a dash of culture. On holidays to Aguadulce, flavoursome Mediterranean dishes are served in low-key yet lively restaurants, and there are many terrace bars along and around the harbour for that all-important sundowner.
