Boutique base in the heart of the city
Nestled in the heart of the Gothic Quarter, backing on to Plaça George Orwell, Arai Aparthotel Barcelona was a former residence of several noble Catalan families. The building dates back to 1702 and still has the original frescos on its façade. But step inside from the hustle and bustle of the narrow cobblestone streets, and you’ll find luxuriously renovated suites within this centuries-old building.
The four-star aparthotel has its own tapas restaurant, Palosanto, with a terrace that’s open all year round on Plaça George Orwel, so you can dine al fresco in your backyard. There’s also a sun terrace with a swimming pool on the roof, a small gym and a sauna.
All of the luxurious rooms feature exposed stonework and wooden beams, and come with a cosy seating area, a designer wardrobe, and a coffee machine. You’ll also have a private bathroom, a flatscreen TV, air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi, and some of the rooms also have a balcony. The best bit, however, is being able to step out into the heart of Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter, with the cathedral five minutes in one direction and the marina in the other.
