"Hello all.
I wrote a review of the Allegro Madeira after my second visit in 2023. I wrote that review as (if you read my first review), I saw some people write reviews slating this hotel for things that I thought were ridiculous and in my opinion likely untrue.
First review is here https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowUserReviews-g189167-d505397-r906987571-Allegro_Madeira_Adults_Only-Funchal_Madeira_Madeira_Islands.html
So this is review is in two parts:
1. Any updates from my original review in regards to the hotel
2. My experience on this visit
Updates to the hotel
Storage has been updated since my original review with more drawers added to the area where you store your clothes. Also all rooms now come with a clothes steamer to help you get rid of those suitcase creases and wrinkles.
Facilities are still top notch. The gym has had a facelift and I felt the air conditioning unit was better and definitely appreciated 😉
The sunbathing area has had some new sun bean bags and actual beds with shade curtains added (I'm sure theres a proper name for them). You do have to pre-book these as I was informed by a member of staff when I just sat on one for a minute. 😊 The sun loungers all have little service cards on them which you can use to order drink to be brought to you from teh bar staff, so you can stay out in that sun and barely move.
If you are with Jet2, they now have a holiday rep who visits the hotel. Her name is Yulia, and I highly recommend talking to her. Especially if you are visiting for the first time. She's a lovely, charasmatic and enthusiastic woman who can advise you on where to visit and what to do when you tell her your plans. Her enthusiasm for Madeira and helping people make the most of their visits is infectious and will make you want to get out and see the island ASAP.
My experience on this visit.
So let me start by telling you that this was my seventh visit to Madeira since my first in 2022. On every visit I have stayed at the Allegro. I call it my Madeiran home, as I can't imagine staying anywhere else when I visit Madeira....unless I end up being fortunate enough to move there.
Since I first walked in the doors of the hotel in 2022 to my visit in December 25/January 2026 the staff have always made me feel welcome, and any request or need is always taken care of. The staff at the Allegro from the manager to the ladies cleaning the rooms will do what they can to help you. They always say hello with a smile and it never feels false.
When I walked in the door after being dropped off by the transfer bus, I was immediately greeted with that scent that the hotel use in the reception area. I have no idea what t is, but it's now in my brain as the "Allegro" scent. It melts away the slight travel fatigue and makes me relax as I know I'm in my favourite hotel. I was then greeted with a big smile and a "hello! It's so good to see you. Welcome back again". Since this was visit number seven obviously the staff recognise me and are always so welcoming. Check in was literally a minute as my info is obviously in the system. I was given the usual welcome bundle the hotel provides. A map of restaurants, bars etc which the hotel themselves recommend. Information about the hotel, numbers, times for food being served, and an invitation to the new years party. I didn't go to the new years party as I was booked in somewhere else for new year.
I went to my room, which as always was immaculate, and had all the amenities and equipment mentioned in my first review, plus the steamer which I mentioned above. There is always a greeting card from the maid who cleaned the room before my arrival, which i think is a nice touch.
I unpacked quickly, cleaned myself up and headed out. As with my first review the hotel is surrounded by great restaurants and bars, as well as some places to do activities. The Lido area is a great area to be in, in my opinion.
New year brought with it a storm....but with exception of obviously not using the pool area, or the rooftop bar for obvious safety reasons. It was business as usual in the hotel. I also have to say that although there was a lot of rain, and I mean torrential rain! The staff kept the reception flood (which is tiled) immaculate and dry, which is obviously important in keeping people from slipping and falling.
I had breakfast in the morning, which is a buffet style all you can eat. The kitchen staff and waiting staff do a great job of keeping the food area stocked, as well as cleaning up the tables etc. This can get hectic at peak time in the morning, but the staff handle it with ease.
I did use the gym while I was there, which as I said has had a bit of a refurbishment. Its a good gym and will help you burn off all the great Madeiran food and drink you're gong to consume during your stay. Due to the abnormal weather that the island was experiencing, there were only really 4 good days of sunshine, which I took advantage of. As always the area was kept immaculate, the pool was clean and had a bit of temperature in it. The staff were around to bring drink and food if I wanted it. It is funny to see how we are from different countries. I'm sitting in the sun bathing with shorts on, while the staff have layers of clothing on. Being Scottish, once the temp gets to mid teens 15/16c thats warm to us....not the Madeirans 😂
In summary if you want details of the hotel and rooms read my first review. I love the Allegro! I have stayed in a five star hotel in Madeira due to being put up in it by Jet2, as we couldn't leave Madeira that day due to a storm. I am aware it was only one night, but I found the staff and the hotel a bit cold! I honestly was going to run along the road and see if I could have my room for another night 😋
The hotel has great facilities, food, drink, chill out areas to congregate, rooms are great and have everything you could need. It's adults only, which is a massive plus for what I'm looking for. But what sets the Allegro apart from the rest in my opinion is the staff of the hotel. Lovely people who will do all they can to make you feel at home and attend to your needs and go above and beyond for you. I cannot recommend this hotel enough and I can't wait to be back in October for visit number 8, to celebrate my birthday on my favourite island with my favourite hotel in the world."
