"Perched atop Monte Mario, the Rome Cavalieri, a Waldorf Astoria Hotel, offers a beautiful resort-style escape with sweeping panoramic views over the Eternal City. This hilltop sanctuary provides a welcome contrast to Rome's hustle, blending resort tranquility with access to the city's highlights.
Location
Located at Via Alberto Cadlolo 101, the hotel sits outside the historic center—about 3 km from the Vatican and 6 km from the Spanish Steps—delivering serene seclusion and unobstructed vistas. The surrounding area feels safe and peaceful. The complimentary hourly shuttle to central Rome (Via Veneto/Barberini drop-off) makes exploration feasible without constant taxis, though planning around schedules is essential for evenings.
Room
Our spacious room impressed with its comfort and thoughtful design, providing ample space to unwind. The highlight was the breathtaking view of Rome's rooftops and monuments, creating a sense of elevated privilege each morning and evening.
Wellness
The spa proved the stay's standout feature. I've yet to encounter another property with such an integrated cold plunge pool within the hammam, delivering a refreshing contrast alongside saunas, whirlpools, indoor/outdoor pools, and a well-equipped fitness center. It offered genuine rejuvenation after days of sightseeing.
Imperial Club
The paid upgrade to Imperial Club access, marketed as premium, proved disappointing. The lounge felt small, with limited food and beverage selections and restricted hours—far less generous than many complimentary lounges I've accessed via Hilton Diamond, Marriott Titanium, or IHG Ambassador status at other properties. It didn't match the promised exclusivity.
Service
While the resort maintains high standards in many areas, front desk interactions came across as dismissive at times, creating an unwelcoming impression—as if not all guests were equally valued. This contrasted sharply with expectations for a Waldorf Astoria property and felt out of place.
Verdict
The Rome Cavalieri excels as a beautiful resort with exceptional views and a remarkable spa, perfect for recharging while shuttling into Rome. It suits those wanting seclusion over centrality. However, the underwhelming Imperial Club and occasional service inconsistencies highlight that not all five-star experiences deliver equally."
