"This may be a 4* by Italian standards but do not expect it to match a British 4*.
Alarm bells immediately rang when we noticed plug in air fresheners in the room.
Rooms were very dated, toilet seat was loose, toilet roll holder was hanging off the wall, and the tiniest corner shower (water was lovely and hot though). Our main gripes though were with the bed which was embarrassingly noisy with creaking springs. Hands down the worst nights sleep I’ve ever had. Also there was just a top sheet and a decorative throw which clearly hadn’t been washed between guests as it smelled musty and of someone’s aftershave. The blanket in the cupboard also smelled musty (and looked 30 years old judging by all the bobbling) and we were not inclined to use it. This meant we slept using just the top sheet, which was ok as it was still quite warm but if it was cooler it would have been a problem.
Evening meal in the restaurant was also a major disappointment with the pizza being horribly overproved, it was thick, tasteless and virtually impossible to cut. My husband left over 3/4 of it but the waitress just whisked it away without so much as a ‘was everything ok.’ We were just too dog tired to complain and being the last day of our European holiday just wanted to sleep (ha!) before our early flight back the next morning,
Positives: transfer to the airport was €7.50 each and saved us dragging our cases to the train station. Location was also good. Breakfast was by far the best part of our stay with wonderful fresh pastries (possibly the best chocolate croissant I’ve ever had).
There is a distinct lack of good hotels in Pisa, this looked to be among the best, so I would strongly recommend staying somewhere like Florence and taking a day trip in."
