Amalfi elegance meets modern indulgence
This is the stuff that Amalfi dreams are made of. So perfectly are the terraced gardens etched into this cliffside, you might find yourself wondering which came first – the rugged coastline or the refined hotel.
Picture 20th century grandeur reimagined for the modern traveller. Classic but never stuffy, contemporary but never soulless. It’s antique furnishings meets Dyson hairdryers – literally. Add the Michelin-starred restaurant, the swish spa, and the breezy beach club, and we reckon you’re onto a winner.
The service is standout, too, in no small part thanks to the more than 100 years the family have spent honing their craft. It’s no surprise, then, that guests return year after year – and are greeted as old friends.

Hotel highlights
The jewel in the crown might be Michelin-starred Glicine – where you can choose between the ever-evolving à la carte and tasting menus – but the whole dining scene here is just one big tick after another. Lazy lunches and relaxed dinners are the name of the game at Al Mare, where the menu is crowded with tried-and-tested favourites. Think flavourful pasta dishes, wood-fired pizzas, and net-fresh seafood.
Senzafine is the latest addition to the line-up, and it’s a cracker. The vibe is intimate and exclusive, a Mediterranean grill and sushi bar with an eagled-eyed view of the sea from its rooftop setting. Il Grottino, though, might top our list. It’s perfectly lovely, tucked away in the rockface, and feels tailor-made for nights under the stars. And you never have to worry about clouds ruining the vibe, thanks to the blanket of twinkly lights stretching over the terrace.
They say when life gives you lemons, make lemonade – but we prefer a lemon massage on the Amalfi Coast.
The star of the spa menu is ‘Oro di Amalfi’ – a signature treatment that uses delicate lemon oil to soothe the body, awaken the senses and gently balance the Chakras. The result? You’ll emerge refreshed, revitalised, and just a little bit radiant.
Elsewhere, indulge in an Indonesian-inspired ritual designed to rebalance your energy, or opt for a focused legs-and-feet massage – ideal if you’ve been clocking up the steps along the coast.
This part of the world lends itself to slow-lane days beautifully. Stuff your case with sizzling summer reads and scope out a spot on one of the bathing platforms that step their way down to the sea – sorted. But before you lose yourself between those pages, why not start your day with a sun salutation? One good deep breath of that Italian coastal air and you might have a whole new lease of life. If nothing else, it certainly beats practising your warrior pose in the drab surroundings of your local sports hall.
As much as we love this hotel, it’d be a crime not to explore your surroundings while you’re here. Whether you make the 15-minute pilgrimage into Amalfi, head off on a concierge-organised tour of the local wineries, or hire yourself a set of wheels and make the Amalfi Coast Drive, you’ll be treated to showstopping scenes around every bend.
The setting. We really can’t say enough about this spot. Between the craggy cliff face, the cheerful tumbles of bougainvillea, and the deep blue of the Tyrrhenian stretching towards the horizon, even we’d struggle to find a nicer spot than this.
The beach club. Exclusively for guests and accessed via an elevator to coast you down to sea level from the main building’s perch, it’s perfect for long, sunlit afternoons. Lounge by the saltwater pool – heated, don’t you know – or grab a bite at Al Mare. Pure bliss.
That there’s a complimentary shuttle service to ferry you to and from buzzy Amalfi. Running from 8 ‘til late, you can easily get your fill of ceramic shops, local bistros, and pretty piazzas.
