"I wish I could give this hotel more than 3 stars but due to our experience while we were there, It does not feel right to give a higher star!
On our first 'official' day we headed out to the beach via the handy free shuttle bus. We spent a lovely day at the beach and then came back to the hotel. As we got closer to our room I noticed our do not disturb sign was on the floor a meter or so away from the door. We thought nothing of this as sometimes they can easily fall off/blow off etc. We noticed our room had not been cleaned (beds not made up, bins not emptied) so we thought nobody had been in our room... as we wished hence putting the DND sign up. We got ready for the evening, had food, drinks and took part in the bingo and then headed back to our room.
Upon arriving back into our room my partner confessed he was a little cold sat on the balcony and decided to go and put his hoodie on which he had taken off on the day of our arrival and left in a pile of clothes that he arrived in and not touched since. Upon going to his clothes he noticed his hoodie was no longer there.
We checked everywhere, all of us agreeing that the hoodie had not been left anywhere as it had not left the room with us after he took it off when arriving in the room around 3pm the day before.
We decided to go to sleep and head to reception the following morning to try and find out what was happening. My partner spoke to a lady on reception and tried to explain that his hoodie had disappeared. Before my partner could even mention that the only other possible people to go in our room would be the cleaners (even though when leaving I placed the do not disturb sign on the handle), the lady on reception stated (a little rudely) to my partner "cleaners do not take".
We headed back to our room and saw a cleaner and decided to ask if they had been in our room yesterday or seen the hoodie etc. The first lady we spoke to then wandered off to another cleaner and seemed from our point of view to shout at her in another language and did not seem happy at all. She then turned to us and said "No".
We were then left feeling confused and honestly a little unsafe. Cleaners/staff would not confirm or deny if anyone had been in our room, and as entry to the room was by a simple key, it looked as though they would be no trail of who had entered/left the room.
Myself and my partner are not upset about the fact his (brand new £60) hoodie was gone, we are more upset at the principle of thinking people had been in our room and taken it when we did not wish for people to go in our room that day. Also worried about whether this could happen to other people and more valuable or sentimental items could be taken. We were also left with not knowing the outcome of the situation when going home Saturday 25th. We have escalated this with the hotel themselves and Jet2 Holidays once arriving home.
Apart from this downer on the first few days of our holiday, upon first arrival and also during our stay, most staff we found to be very friendly especially the bar workers at the cosmopolitan bar on an evening. The entertainment team are a credit to this hotel especially 'Checky Checky' man was excellent and we enjoyed chatting to him on our final night before going home! They work long hours I believe 6/7 days a week and they work very hard to keep guests entertained.
Food was good and we always found something to eat. For picky eaters I always seemed to notice chicken nuggets, chips and spaghetti with the choice of bolonese or tomato pasta sauce. The snack bar was good and the use of self service soft drinks, juice and hot drinks made getting our drinks a lot easier during the day. I will mention I did notice most lunches and evening meals the meat option consisted of pork and the snack bar meat was pork too.
Also just to mention (to the fellow brits) breakfast consists of hot dog sausages, what looked like tinned ham with crispy edges and potato wedges. While this did not bother us, I am aware some people would be disappointed that they do not have 'proper' sausages!! However there is a great selection of pastries, fruit, yoghurt and variations of eggs. Some days we did find food to be not the warmest but most AI can be like this sometimes.
The room we stayed in was a little outdated and one downer was that they was no plugs next to the bed meaning we had to charge our phones/devices at other ends of the room. I did hear however the hotel is due for renovations once it closes for winter to make it like the rest of the renovated rooms/hotel areas so this may change
We used the adult only section most of the time if in the hotel grounds during the day. The smaller pool up the steps we believe was slightly heated but the whole area was calm and peaceful.
Gorgeous cats roam the premises and you can tell they are very well fed. The supermarket on site is 24 hours (pay at reception) and has a good selection of crisps/snacks/drinks etc also pool floaties and rubber rings if you do not fancy walking down the hill to the other supermarket!!
The only other thing I would like to mention. We were situated in block 4 and I noticed the last couple of days how thin the walls were. As more guests arrived and were situated near our room we noticed how we were woken up at 7:30 each morning from hearing them talking loudly to each other and roaming the corridor outside of our room and also kicking footballs towards our door!! I know this cannot be helped sometimes but it is worth mentioning if you like a good nights sleep or are a light sleeper this may not benefit you.
All in all we did enjoy our week here regardless of the bad parts. I do not think we would return to this hotel partly due to the location and what happened but would return to Rhodes. We will await an update from the hotel/jet2 regarding our missing item."
