"Nice quiet hotel, peaceful atmosphere but quite remote. Tavronitis is a small village, has a beach but we didn’t like it, coarse sand, suddenly goes deep when entering the sea. Hotel has nice pool and loungers. Bar in the daytime. Friendly helpful staff. Towels & sheets are changed regularly and the whole hotel and pool area are very clean. Our standard room was fine, comfortable bed, kitchen is tiny set into a cupboard with 2 electric rings, no oven, but has a sink, fridge & cooking utensils. Has a safe in the room. Continental Breakfast is brought to the room, eggs, ham, cheese, fruit, yoghurt and pastries. I need Gluten Free so I informed the hotel beforehand and was assured my breakfast would be catered for. It was fairly ok with egg, ham, cheese, yoghurt, (awful GF bread), but I wasn’t provided with any GF cereal, GF pastries or GF croissants, so breakfast became rather boring for 12 days. There’s only one taverna not too far away which had absolutely no idea about Gluten Free food, I had some lamb but it was really dire so we didn’t go back. No supermarkets near. Second day we hired a car for the entire time which is definitely essential if you stay here. There is a bus stop fairly near at the end of the road. Found decent supermarkets and a few very nice restaurants that we went to several times, they had good GF options. We really loved Crete and visited Balos by boat and drove to Elafonissi beach which were absolutely spectacular. White sand, turquoise crystal waters with lagoons. We thought Elafonisi was on a par with the beaches of the Maldives. Falassarna beach is also beautiful, you need to get to all these beaches early by about 10.30 at the latest, even in September if you want sunbeds & parasol. Cost of hire is around €20 for 2 sun beds & parasol. Chania harbour was so lovely with small walkways, lovely shops and cafes/restaurants with a great vibe. Nightmare traffic in Chania though and difficult to park in the roads, it’s so busy, we eventually found a supermarket car park but SO EXPENSIVE- €16 for 5hrs. We will definitely go back to Crete but we will stay somewhere which is more accessible to facilities etc. There are bus stops along the coast roads to various places but we didn’t use them."
