"Mr. S. Köhler is the General Manager of the Hilton Munich City & Regional Manager of South/West area Germany for Hilton hotels.
The hotel has a fantastic location in Munich, located in the Haidhausen district at Rosenheimer Platz, highly accessible, making it a prime location for travelers wanting to be close to the heart of the city without being directly in the busiest, most expensive, or loudest tourist spots. This Hilton features 483 rooms and suites, the Juliet Rose bar, and has a strong focus on sustainability. The hotel (built in 1989) finished a two year renovation of approximately $50 million in 2019.
As HH Lifetime Diamond member it is sadly, even after the renovation, still not my favorite (German) Hilton hotel although it has huge potential and is a solid, clean and quiet hotel in one of my favorite cities in Germany, Muenchen. Encountered issues during our shortened stay have been discussed in person by my husband with Mr. Köhler.
To reach the Hilton Munich City from Munich Airport (MUC) in 2026, the most (cost) efficient method is using the S-Bahn suburban train system.
Which Line to Use? Take the S8 line (direction Herrsching or Weßling).
Station: Get off at Rosenheimer Platz. The Hilton Munich City is located directly above this station, close to Deloitte Munich offices. Supermarkets & shops like Aldi are across the street of the hotel.
Follow the signs for "Gasteig" once you exit the train to find the hotel's direct elevator to the lobby.
Duration: The S-Bahn train journey typically takes approximately 35 minutes.
Frequency: Trains on the S8 line depart from the airport every 20 minutes. Combined with the S1 line (which also goes to the city center but is less direct for this specific hotel), trains depart roughly every 10 minutes.
Cost (2026 Estimates, as prices might change):
Single Adult Ticket: A one-way ticket from the airport to the city center (Zone M-5) costs approximately €15.50 as of January 2026.
Airport-City-Day-Ticket (highly recommended): If you plan to use more public transport later in the day, this ticket is approximately €17.50 for a single person or €32.60 for a group of up to five people (great for families).
Where to Buy: Tickets can be purchased at Deutsche Bahn/MVV vending machines (cash or card) at the airport station or via the MVV mobile app.
As a comparison to public transportation:
A taxi from Munich Airport (MUC) to Rosenheimer Platz typically costs between €95–€130 and takes approximately 30 to 45 minutes, depending on traffic which can be bad in Munich. Uber is generally comparable or slightly cheaper, with estimates starting around €66 for UberX, though surge pricing can apply (e.g. Oktoberfest, xmas market, MSC, soccer games).
Price: €70–€130 (Taxi); ~€66+ (UberX).
Time: 30–45 minutes.
Distance: Approx. 35–40 km (22–25 miles).
Rosenheimer Platz is a central hub in Munich, located approximately 2 km (about 3-6 minutes by train) from the city centre (Marienplatz) and 3 km from the main train station (Hauptbahnhof). It is situated in the Au-Haidhausen district, offering quick access to major sights via S-Bahn trains running every 5 minutes.
Marienplatz (City Centre): ~2 km away. A short 3-minute S-Bahn ride (S1-S8 lines).
Munich Hauptbahnhof (Central Station): ~3 km away. Roughly 6-9 minutes by S-Bahn.
Local Attractions: The area is well-connected to the Isar River, the German Museum (Deutsches Museum), and the cultural spots in the Au-Haidhausen neighborhood, which is popular for its local vibe."
