Santa Catalina, A Royal Hideaway Hotel

"We came for our wedding anniversary and had a terrible experience, after checking in, we went into our room, which was dated, lights not working, dirty and smelt damp and not what we had expected from the pictures on the website, the roof bar overlooked tankers and everyone complaining that it took forever to get a drink as nobody on the bar, we immediately took our cases to reception and said it was unacceptable and please could we have a refund as we would be going elsewhere, the young man in reception was extremely rude and had my wife in tears, another lady in reception took over and kindly said 'please dont worry if we emailed the address that she gave us, we would be refunded no problems at all. We sent the email and the response was also terrible. I will put in the pictures section. Avoid at all costs, customer service appalling |"

"This beautiful old hotel, still maintains its ranking as one of the best in Gran Canaria and quite rightly so. Although offering all of the modern trimmings you would expect from a deluxe hotel it hasn't forgotten or given up on its classic charm and sophistication and that feeling that their guests should be cared for. From the moment you arrive until the sad moment you leave all of the staff go out of their way to make your stay special and very welcoming. Whether it is taking afternoon tea, listening to the many fine musicians ( concert quality by pianist Augusto Baez) or dining in the hotels fabulous on-site restaurants the level of service remains constantly high. It would be easy to single out members of staff for special praise but in some ways that would be unfair as each and every one we encountered were refreshingly professional. If you want to enjoy the hotel at its fullest we would suggest staying in one of the suites as this does give access to the rooftop pool and bar during the day. We would also have to say that the dining experience at the Poemas Restaurant was exceptional and ideal for that special occasion and treat."

"Santa Catalina is a very nice resort in a good location, just a short drive from Vegueta and the airport. My friends and I stayed two nights, including Sunday, so we were able to enjoy the Sunday Jazz Brunch. Lovely grounds, good food and clean, spacious rooms."
