Santa Catalina a Royal Hideaway Hotel

"Historic, elegant hotel let down by poorly managed staff. The Santa Catalina is a city hotel, so do not expect spacious grounds, but it is gorgeous and historic. Really lovely building. Situated 20 mins walk from old town and 30m walk in the other direction from port and main beach. Best if you can afford a suite as some facilities (eg rooftop area and pool) are restricted. Note that deluxe (ie basic) rooms are very ordinary. Breakfast is sub par, a small and therefore crowded buffet area with just the basic choices, really nothing special at all. Half board evening meal is very good and excellent value, à la carte and a wide choice, but remember to book or you may be told to come back later even if you are a half board guest. The real problem is that this superb hotel has grumpy, inattentive staff who seem unhappy and demotivated. Reception, concierge, bars, restaurants, staff in all areas do not make guests feel welcome. My wife speaks Spanish and we try to engage with hotel staff but there’s little reciprocity. Staff motivation is an issue for management to address. I hope they do because the Santa Catalina hotel deserves better."

They have very cleverly maintained the original historical hotel and added modern pool area etc in such a considers way… highlights Rooftop pool is stunning Rooms are fab, comfortable and turn down service fab Bathroom products high quality and shower one of the best ever Balcony watching all the coming and goings was lovely Breakfast terrace lovely and breakfast worth it for sure Niggles Paying for water even in rooms Bar service at night was random sometimes busy and cahotic Loved it"
