"Villa 1-2 needs total renovation
Villa7-21 needs a new hot tub
Arrived to a task of completing 6 digital forms to check in, we got taken to our room by a frosty receptionist who insisted on me following her around the villa whilst my family checked out the rooms.
We soon discovered the air con did not work. I called reception and they said to give it half an hour. I’ve never had air con which needed half an hour to work. It is certainly not the expectation from a luxury resort. We asked for someone to come and take a look and they confirmed it was faulty. We were provided with 2 portable air con units. I informed reception that this was not suitable as it meant leaving the doors open overnight meaning our 7 year old would have direct unsupervised access to the pool.
We were then offered an ‘emergency room’ for overnight. They wanted us to then return to the original villa in the morning whether the air con was working or not. If it was not working we’d be given a different ‘emergency room’. I explained that this was also not a suitable alternative.
We made our own arrangements to move into my mums villa as they had 4 unused and locked rooms. The reception opened it up for us. This was the last we heard from reception regarding the issue until I asked 2 days later if our air con was fixed. They were not interested on the impact this situation had on us. We saw maintenance vehicles outside our original villa for many days of our stay including the last day when maintenance told us it still was not fixed. The air con in this second villa was icy cold-fantastic- and worked immediately-EVEN WITH THE DOORS OPEN!
The hot tub in my mums villa needs to be condemned, CRACKED, OLD, WORN, DIRTY, SLIMY and not fit for use. Pictures attached. The pool had a green tidal mark which we had to ask them to clean off.
BahíAzul is hiding DECREPITUDE behind layers of paint and false smiles. The staff will not take accountability for any issues and have an argument for everything. It was tedious and exasperating.
Yes, there is funny smells lingering, untold horrors with COCKROACHES, and flaky paint hiding unforeseen horrors, however, the main issue for me is that there is no apparent leader.
There is no clear manager who takes control of this place who provides cohesion to the staff team, consistency and professionalism. It is a TOXIC STAFF TEAM and culture that is fostered here.
The maintenance team are nothing but friendly, professional and hardworking. We were visited sometimes multiple times a day for nearly every day of our stay. It took 3 visits over two days for example, to view the issues with the hot tub. No solution was found though, I imagine the higher power did not authorise further rectification.
THE RESTAURANT… the food appears to be prepackaged frozen and recooked. I doubt very much that there’s any genuine ‘cheffing’ going on. Chicken was served raw, turkey was grey, beef burgers were red in the middle. The food lacks quality and diversity. The staff are a mixed bag, struggling to get basic drinks orders correct or arriving at all and only some of them are slightly friendly. I asked to take a toastie back to our villa at breakfast time as my autistic daughter struggles with the whole breakfast experience, to be told no. It wasn’t until my dad told them-we were taking one regardless, they changed their tune. Again, it was a somewhat frosty experience, it is not somewhere I’d choose to dine again.
I can see that BahíaAzul has maybe had its day. We did not feel welcomed, and I’d go as far to say we actually felt animosity toward us from the disagreeable reception staff.
If you’re looking for a luxury resort, with staff who actually take pride in what they do, are inclusive and go the extra mile-I recommend Kamezi Boutique Villas, Playa Blanca, Lanzarote. We will be booking to return here imminently to recover from our stay at BahiaAzul.
