Tivoli Doelen Amsterdam Hotel

"The location was perfect, the atmosphere was romantic and the Empress Suite made us feel like royalty. From go to woe the hotel staff were wonderful. I hurt myself and needed a doctor and they were so kind and caring even to the point that I received a follow up email on my return asking how I was. The breakfast was the best I have ever had and we have travelled a lot. The Tivoli pancakes are a must try and the view from the dining room was quintessential Amsterdam. We will return and recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a truly amazing stay in Amsterdam."

"The hotel is pleasant and friendly , the location is great with beautiful views. My only complaint is the street noise which includes traffic and the constant shouting and screaming from people until all hours. The rubbish on the ground around the benches overlooking the canal also attracts screeching birds fighting for food from overflowing bins. While I understand that Amsterdam does not have double-glazed windows which would help with this, cleaning the bathroom would significantly reduce the presence of crows and gulls scavenging from the street. We had a suite which was large and very clean with large windows that made it very bright. The reception staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Some of the breakfast staff could do with smiling and at least giving the impression of enjoying their job."

"This is a solid older hotel. But, as many older hotels, there are quirks. There is only one elevator, so waits may be long. The lower level front rooms, are very noisy from street sounds because of relatively thin windows. The rooms are not generous in size, and there is not an abundance of space to place luggage. The bathrooms are small, though very clean and modern. The dining room is is wonderfully placed over looking the canal. The breakfast foods are adequate and tasty, but more variance from morning to morning would be nice. Maurice at the front door is a real gem. The receptionists could use more training. They need to learn how to smile, and realize that part of their job is making the guests happy. On the other hand the hotel manager is a caring and delightful man. The location of this hotel is central and superb, and the scenery is quintessential Amsterdam."
