Jan Luyken Hotel Amsterdam

"There are many good points for staying at the Jan Luyken Amsterdam. The location in a residential street next to the Museumplein is just a block over from Moco (contemporary art), Stedelijk (modern art), and Van Gogh Museums; and just a 5 min walk to the Rijksmuseum. It’s a block over from a street (PC Hooftstraat) with ritzy shopping if you like that sort of thing. The Museumplein tram stop is on the next street over (Paulus Potterstraat) where you can easily catch the #2 or #12 tram to Leidseplein (nightlife, dining), Koningsplein (Bloemenmarkt - flower market), Paleisstraat (Royal palace, Dam square), or up to Amsterdam Centraal station (trains for day trips, like to Zaanse Schans to see windmills in action, or to Schiphol airport to return home). Tap & pay with my phone made it easy to use the trams or metro. There’s a reasonable selection of good restaurants and cafes nearby or a short tram ride away. Breakfast and drinks were included with my stay. Breakfast was simple but good quality. You can grab drinks from the lobby bar at any time. My Snug room was comfortable and well maintained, and the same can be said about lounge and dining areas, which has a homey rather than hotel feel. Bicycles can be borrowed on a first come, first served basis. Staff were attentive and most helpful to any questions. Here are a few lesser points. If you’re expecting a modern hotel then you might be disappointed. Hallways and stairwells are narrow in the old townhouse. The Snug room is truly “snug” with not much space to move around the double bed. Amenities worked fine but were a bit dated. The bathroom was small and shower had a curtain but no floor pan so water spreads along the tile floor. Breakfast does get crowded and seats limited, but the lounge can be used for overflow seating. Despite these points, the stay at Jan Luyken was very enjoyable and seemed fitting for a visit to Amsterdam."

"Lovely boutique hotel one block from museum district and right around the corner from amazing shopping. We walked all over Amsterdam from this location and had an amazing time. Our room was small and very comfortable. The use of a multitude of warm colors made it very cozy. Breakfast in the morning was plentiful, and the evening bar assortment was lovely. Sherina was warm and friendly and made everyone feel at home."

"Such a unique property and good location to catch the tram. Upon early arrival the front desk offered us breakfast and assistance on how to use public transportation in the heart of the museum district. This is an older property with larger than expected rooms. The front desk were very helpful and breakfast each day was very good. The costs were quite high but expected for this city. It does include free adult beverages all day long."
